elevation question
#1
We are headed to the mountians this weekend. Need to adjust tonight. The blaster is stock so I would guess the needle is set to 3 (middle). For this ride we will be mostly putting around. Do I need to adjust the needle? Can I just get away with taking off the air box lid? Or even just the snorkle on the air box? Hate to tear into the carb with the oil injection crap in the way. (need to rid that mess anyway)
Reason I think it may be fine with the air lid off is because I did that with the DS and it stopped cutting out up at 6000ft. The blaster is new to our bunch and not sure what it will do.
I posted this in the yamaha area and 6 people looked at it with no replies.....need feedback for tonight...if possible!

Most all manufacturers recommend one drop in jet size per every two thousand feet. 0-4000 you should be ok with sea level jetting. 4000-8000 good with 4000' jetting and so on. Of course if you after perfect performance this would just be a baseline. I dont know what elevation your at and at which elevation your going to but if you not jumping more than 4000' you should be ok with your current setup. Removing the air box sould allow more air in. Worse case is you foul the plugs, so take another set just in case. Have fun Jed

we will be in the 6700ft and possibly 7400ft. Gets pretty high. I live in the 2700ft range. I know that my DS just starts to act up at 6000ft but taking off my DS lid seems to clear it up.

If you want it perfect, you will have to spend some time with her. I would start with a main jet two sizes smaller. Adjust your idle air screw when you get there to acheive a good response off idle. She will probably be fat in the mid, so you can lower the needle a clip to see if it cleans up. Check plugs and wash consistently while doing this. Tan plugs is good, the color of carhart is even a little safer. White is no good makes things squeak. This is just a baseline hope it helps. If it was mine I'd ride it like she is, maybe remove the lid like you said. Its more than likely colder up there so you might not need to rejet after all. Did I just confuse you even more? Jed
