Default First ride and Breaking in period?

Sorry guys, I am sure you have heard this before, but I did a search and came up with nothing so I am going to ask. I am picking up my 2005 DS650X Baja this next weekend and was wondering what advice you had for me during the first ride. How should I treat her, is there anything special I should do? Should I use the whole tank of gas in the break in period before I change the oil? I have heard that I should have the valves adjusted after the first 10 hours, is this true? How much do you think it will cost me at the dealer to have the valves adjusted because I can't do them myself? Thank guys, I just want to make sure I do this right!

Everyone likes to do their break in different, but for your first rides i wouldnt beat on 'er just yet, heres what i did - no full throttle, went thro each gear evenly never downshifting more than 1 gear at a time w/out letting the clutch out, no powershifting, no popping the clutch, allowed a good time to warm up before riding it each time. I think they say u should run 2 tanks of gas thro to be a full break in, i ran 1.5 and was racing raptors at the end of that day lol, they couldnt wait to lose lol, course you have some that dont like that break in, just get it and go. Friend of mine had a 400ex, babied it for a week for a fulllll break in, then had nothing but probs with it, he got a new 400ex and barely broke it in at all, just bought it and started riding like it was used, never had a prob with it. I believe the manual tells you a lil something about it when you buy ur Baja, good luck w/ it

I also just bought a new DS, this past friday. I am wondering about the valves, and I am wondering where the best place to buy a SHOP/SERVICE manual at.I screwed up and put some 87 octane in before I read my manual,it says 90 or higher.Should I run it,put some octane boost in, or drain it and get some 90 or higher???I have found one thing I think could have been better, its the swing arm skid plate,I think I'll get the pro armour unit it comes with a tow strap hole in it to pull Hondas!!

Sunman, is Pro Armor making a skid for the '05's aluminum swingarm? The only one I knew about was the Armadillo.

Read this and see what you think, I have used this on two new 400ex's and it worked like a champ.

Sunman, 87 octane isn't going to hurt anything. MrHp recommends it on stock engines I believe.

don't worry about it, i've ran 87 every day i've ever owned my ds, i think its only seen 91 octane once, cuz i ran out of fuel and thats all we had around
