Im thinkin about racing my DS in some hare scrambles in a couple months and was wondering what would be some good mods to do to it. Right now it basically stock with a 15t front sprocket and K&N. Ill be able to save up about 100 a month for mods to give ya an idea about the price range.

Do the Mr. HP end caps come with a USFS approved spark arrestor now? If your local sanctioning body is like the sanctioning body that sponsors our local cross country races, you won't be able to race without the USFS approved spark arrestor. And they have tech inspection before the race to make sure you have one.

You will need a kill switch and a good set of four or six ply tires if the course is anything less than clean hard pack or sand. I'm a fan of nerf bars but you may want the ability to put your feet down and roll the quad back if you get in a pinch. Other than that I say hit the stock class and have some fun.

Id say a def 6ply tire, light but meaty, a HMF exhaust so u can have the sparky, a CDI box and some lightweight parts. I think the suspension stock holds its own very well, plus its a big $ mod if u were to change 'em, but the tires, pipe, cdi, and light parts will be obtainable with ur budget i believe.

They are right about the sound and spark arrestor.
I sure am curious as to what suspension will lower the DS 3-4 inches. I will start saving, too!

buhjuh 16, I was just down at the GNCC in Washington GA and beleive it or not there were no DS's anywhere to be found. I was going to take mine but I am still working on some parts. They do tech inspections at the race, sound was not much of an issue but it will have to have a spark arrestor. If you are thinking about going to the Loretta Lynn’s GNCC let me know. I am going to race mine.

I honestly havent been to a GNCC race before so i dont know much of what to expect. Ive talked to some friends that race so I know a little bit. They said that they havent seen any DS's so i figured heck it be something different and somethin no one else does. But I dont even have gear yet, just a helmet. I think jersey, pants, and boots are required, which is about 100. I was really lookin at the hpresearch end cap, but my second choice of the HMF will have to do. Next would have to be new wheels and tires to make it a little narrower. Would I notice alot in a new CDI, I think they add about 1500 in RPMS but the only performance I would notice would be in the added rpm range, correct? I'm 17 right now and would deffinatly be a beginner in racing so Im not sure what class I would be in. I was lookin at the Mid-South Hare Scrambles series to race in since im in about in the center from where all the races are held. Thanks alot for the input guys!
