compression and valve adjustment???
#1
I posted a week ago and I had some chattering noise comming from the top end of my ds. I was told that is could be a cam chain adjuster. I pulled the old one out and thought it was bad so I ordered a ron wood manual adjusting one. I just got it and put it in and still have the noise. If the valves are out of adjustment will they make noise? I checked my compression and it reads about 125 psi with throttle wide open and not doing any thing with the decompression lever. Does this seem about right? Plugs look alittle white on the end piece. Just trying to find out where this noise is comming from.

Valves have a tendency to get tighter when motor is new.
Whenever the valve train seems noisy, check valve clearance.

well here is my .02 cents I read somewhere not doing anything with the decompression lever and checking compression you should still get over 180 lbs psi and with the lever deactivated you should be around 220 psi, When I checked mine last fall I got 185 with the lever deactivated and when I pulled my motor down my ring endgap was 1.3mm and my intake valves were not seating, as a matter of fact I just got it back together yesterday and fired it up awesome totally different machine,

my experiance is with WOT only I 've seen 150-160psi on a healthy motor @ 5000ft. With the decomp lever also disengaged the compression goes up to 185-200 on a stock motor. At lower elevations it should be higher in each instance.
