Default Shaving rear fenders

I'm thinking about shaving the fenders on my DS. They are really wide and blukey i think. Is there any good way about doing this? I thought about getting a marker and then using a grinder but i think it would make a mess and make the edges look nasty. any ideas or suggestions?

A jig saw will work. cut slowly and carefully then sand the edges with sandpaper on a block to smooth the edges starting with an 80 grit sandpaper and going finer to a 320-360 grit wet or dry type paper used wet .

I use a drimel with a cutting wheel but yours will work and Id keep the speed low. The trick is to draw your lines with a black sharpy and then putting masking tape over your line. The tape keeps the plastic from melting. When your done use a block and some sand paper to get it straight. I also use an orbital sander. Go to a auto parts store or Wal mart and get some door trim. It comes in black or chrome and has adhesive in it and just stick it on. It really gives your fenders a finished look and will hide any flaws. Good luck.

I used a jigsaw. I cut mine down the inside body line. Checkout my pics and see what they look like. Might give you some ideas on how far you want to go.

I have always used a box razor, no need for any sandpaper when you are done. Just follow the inside line under the fender and get deaper each time down the line till you go thru the plastic, makes a good looken job.

just cut the rear fender on my stocker yesterday!!! used black electrical tape to mark the line i wanted to follow and used a cut off wheel (favorite tool ever) and buzzed it right off then some 150 grit sand paper on a sanding block and tadaa instant racer. funny how cool a ds can look with the front fenders taken off and the rear fender cut down i even removed the nurf bars, looks more like a full time racer now!!!

p.s. i bought some old beat up plastic from my dealer so i can replace the stock stuff for trail riding.

JMAC650, I just want to compliment you on your ride. That is one of the best looking DS's I've seen. If none of you guys have looked at his pics lately, check them out, his ride is sick!

Utility knife worked fine for me.

I had so little plastic showing that I've now ditched the rear plastic completly.
