DIRTWHEELS August issue Bombardier NEW 450 EFI 2 stroke!!! vs. the Raptor 660r vs. Raptor350, vs. Banshee 350 vs polaris scambler 500.
" although the new BRP450 2 stroke was everyones favorite machine, and we were constantly whipping each other *** for our turn to ride it, We felt in the end the Raptor 660 did enough to win the shootout . ANd although the BRP450 was hands down the fastest quad in the shoot out, we felt like in the woods it had too much power, and most average riders would feel most comfortable on the Rappy350, so it takes second place. Finally it was between the BRP450, scambler 500,and the Banshee 350. We had to give the finale spot to the scambler 500, cause of its 4 wheel drive capability. leaving the new BRP 450 twin 2 stroke to fight it out with its own cousin the Yamaha 350 twin. And we must say that if you take in too consideration the their is a possiblity of the Banshee being Re-named to the Raptor 350 twin in 2007, we had no chioce but to put it ahead of the New BRP450 75HP 400lbs super quad."

I would go so far as to say some of you are on the right track, and yes for the die hard sport enthusiast, a 450cc 2 stroke would be sweet for sheer thrills, that though would eliminate them from the possiblity of competing in the pro production class as the limit for 4-stroke ATV's is 450cc and I believe 2-strokes is 250cc.
With BRP's interest in racing (at least desert racing) they would then have 2 open class quads, so long as the 650 still exists and of they are as in to the desert racing it would not be a wise move to replace a proven race winner in the DS for a 450 2 stroke.
Now some might say that "Who cares about racing, it makes up a small portion of the overall sales?" Well that could be percieved as true, but the fact that anyone can buy a 400/450 class 4-stroke and go racing is attractive and would boost sales. The 450 2-stroke would be for open classes and pure sports enthusiasts only....being more of a niche product IMO....
The Phantom....is back in action...

Since BRP only takes out 1 page of advertisment, compared to yamaha's 25 pages, the craptors win the shootout hands down!

^^ ... or if zuki releases their new 450, maybe kawi/artic cat will do what they did with the z-400 and make copy cat editions.
I would love to see more big bore sport quads, as long as they arnt 600 lbs and automatic with rebadged labels, that is!
