I need help....PLEASE...

I tried starting my bike today to find a dead battery. No big deal, it usually goes dead after sitting a little while. The battery would not take a full charge, and i ended up pull starting the bike. After started, it spit and sputtered like i have not heard before. After reving it up and down for about 15 or so minutes, it still would not start on its own, nor would it idle.. The other part i noticed was it sounded like the valves were a little louder than usual. It ran perfectly fine the last time i rode it, so what is the prob? The only out of the ordinary i have noticed is that the time before last i rode, on top end it started to bounce the rev limiter at about 8100 rpm. I have the vortec and on #1 setting (8900). Does anyone have any suggestions before i haul the stupid thing to the shop and think about trading it in?

The DS will not run on a shorted-out battery. The stock battery is good for about a year or two. Even if you get it to start, as soon as you accelerate, the battery will not produce enough electricity to provide a good spark to the plugs. First things first, get a new battery then look at the other problems you might have.

whoever said cant beat yuasa...dont know what your smoking! Cant beat yuasa with a big enough stick is about right. I was stupid and kept buying stock batteries (@ 87 bucks a pop) until after 3 I finally heard about the pc545...that battery is cheaper, much higher quality, and NEVER DIES. I have let my ds sit for over a month and it cranks better than the yuasa with a fresh peak.
The pc545 cant be beat. (plus...its orange )

Thanks for all the info guys. I am not sure about what your talking about when you say intake boot. Do you mean the black tube that connects from the airbox to the carb? If so, I have a big tear...Cuz i took it off ( LOL) i have the carb mount filter. Where is a good place to buy the pc545? How much do they run?
Thanks again. You all are lifesavers.
