High compression pistons
#1
Alright well I've been redoing the Baja for a month or so now gettin everything freshened up and rebuilt and I was thinking of installing a High Comp piston while I have the motor apart. I would like everyone's input on how to go with my given situation and riding styles: I ride mainly trails and race motocross on the weekeneds regularly. I have the mods listed in my signature and I would prefer to be able to still run 93 octane gas. I've been thinking 12.5:1, but I would like your input. Thanks alot

With the right cams, and 12 to 1 comp piston, you can run pump gas, give the guys a call at Web Cams a callText web cam

Thanks for the information, I will at the same time be going to a more aggressive cam also, so I suppose either I will stay at 11.5:1 or just go higher and bite the bullet and start paying for race gas.

Compression is not going to gain much HP, a good cam grind will do you much better.
If you want a good all around performing engine, then you want a Sportman cam from RWR, or a custom cam made from HPR, or Pami also has Sportman cams. The Web 110 is a good cam also. But you must decide WHAT you want out of your engine. If you want a drag racer, then their are also cams that will make your motor biuld more HP, but way up in your RPM range, so they suck for anything else but drag racing.
Cam choice is Critical.

Ya what he said....
I went with the 12:1 and HR3 cams from MrHp. However I elected to build the gasket kit up to bring the compression down to around 11:1. I did this so if I decide later to increase the compression all I need to do is replace the gasket set.

Different gasket heights do effect cam timing. A major gasket difference will only change cam timing .25-.50 degrees. There is no way to detect this small of a change as far as hp goes.
