DS spitting and sputtering
#1
My ds has been sitting for about 3 months, I charged the battery and when it finaly started all it would do is sputter and backfire. I cant get it to rev up at all. How long does it need to sit there idaling before it uses the bad gas inside the carb? Now i know why they say when not in use turn the gas off.

Your pilot circuit appears to be gummed up.
Screw out and remove the pilot adjustment screw.
Start the motor and try to rev.
What ever the highest rpm you can get, then cover with finger the pilot screw hole.
Sometimes you get lucky and suck the tarnish through.
Replace pilot screw and set 3 turns out. Start motor.
If still running poorly. Remove carb, spray passages with carb cleaner and blowout with compressed air.

If carb is checked out, it could lso be the rectifier. you can turn the head lights on, and if it runns fine then change your rectifier.
hopefully its your pilot jet

I let the battery charge all day at a 2 amp charge. when i got home if fired right up no missing or sputtering. If the battery doesnt have a good charge can it affect it like it did this morning? I tried 4 or 5 times since i got home and no more problems.
