Default Running hot!!!

Ok heres the deal. I had a dead battery so I jumped my DS off and let it idle. It sat there idling for about 20 min and when I checked on it, coolant was overflowing and the temp light was on. I took it for a ride around the block and it finally cooled down enough for the light to go off.

My question is, has anyone else here had probs with overheating? Oh and the fan was running.

No the bike is literally spotless!! It doesnt make sense to me, I guess the bike just doesnt like the Houston heat.

Hmmmm. Shrouds and some inline coolers? They dont normally overheat with the fan on.

Now this is at a dead stop in my driveway, no reving and the only air movement is from the fan. I dont see how shrouds would help when the bike is just sitting. I have never had the bike run hot on me before. Maybe i just shouldnt let it sit there and idle any more. oh well thanks guys

You know its funny you should bring this up. I just got back from the dunes and my quad was running hot the whole time, Then all of the sudden the battery was dead and it wouldnot hold a charge. I'm wondering if its possible if the stator is trying to charge the battery so hard that it causes the motor to overheat. Just a theory.

Well another idea (besides clogged radiator fins) might be a broken or partially broken impeller or impeller blade (water pump).

Also check the rubber boot between the carb and intake. If it is cracked, it will draw air and cause it to run lean and very hot!!!
