Ok, boys, here is the feedback.

I took a stock DS, and tried all kinds of mods on the bike.

So this is what I picked up on the dyno.

Adding a foam air cleaner to the DS, adds about 1.5 to 2HP across the RPM range.

Then, The Slide mods, and the breather filter adds a noticeable amount of the low and midrange.

The big power gains come from the End cap, slip-on exhaust system and an OPEN airbox!

Close that lid, and you drop 2 HP easy. I have tested this now about 30 different times, and each time the open lid makes more power, PERIOD!!!

I also tested 3 different end cap sizes, and I learned something interesting. I have no idea what the other end caps use, but what I found is that a smaller end cap gives you more top end power. About 1 to 1.5HP more than the massive end cap I am using. The difference comes in after 7000 RPM, where there is a noticeable gain form running a smaller end cap. BUT... with the larger end cap, you gain a way more power in the low and midrange.

SO... I am sticking to the large end cap. Yes, I am loosing 1 to 1.5 HP at the top, but the whole low and midrange power is about 1 to 2HP more with the big end cap. This means that for guys riding trails and messing around on their Ds, the larger end cap is going to make the bike more responsive and make it accelerate out the corners quicker. If you purely drag race, then yes the smaller end cap might give you a little edge, but that is debatable.

The larger end cap improves a much larger RPM range, compared to the small end cap that only improves the last 15% of the RPM range.

Below is a link of a stock DS vs. one with my end cap, Dynojet kit, foam air cleaner and open airbox. At 3500 the DS more than doubles its torque with this setup, so it will give you a massive kick in the pants when you let it rip.

Please note I am at 4500 ft above sea level and my dyno reads very low. Look at the gains and forget about peak HP output.

Freez,

Could you redo the torque chart in foot pounds instead of neuton meters.

My first look and thought was, how can torque be higher than hp above 5252 rpm.

I like to look at charts where hp and torque are the same at 5252rpm.

Your present torque numbers give us the impression that you found something new.

Thanks,
OMR

Hi Freez, interesting research you have been doing with the DS on your dyno, good reading. On a side note have you experimented with different pipes on the new raptor 700 ? My buddy is in the market for an upgrade and is undecided which way to go, slip on or full system, He already has no lid, power commander 111, and K & N air filter and the bike runs well.

Hi OMR, I will update the dyno report as requested.

Then to raptorgav. I have tested a few 700's on my dyno and a full system will make more power than a slip-on. If you go for a good name like sparks, CT or so on, you will get very good results. The stock raptor headers are a limitation, so the full systems will release the motors full potential.

Then to ANNIHILATER. I did not do any other mods to the motor. I actually don't want to at this stage. Reason for not wanting to upgrade the motor even further is because of the damn stock carb on the DS.

I tried to run a size 210 main jet vs. the 200 and there was no difference in fuel delivery. So this leads me to believe that I reached the fuel flow potential of the stock carb. Unless you modify it, there is just no way to get more fuel from that thing. The jet size is not the limitation. If I upgrade the motor even further, it will start running lean. As it is, I am running around 14:1 air fuel ratio, and I don’t like going leaner than that.

This also brings me to the last thing. If I am starting to run lean at 4500 ft, then you sure as hell would be running very lean at sea level with similar mods.

OMR if you have a trick to get more fuel out of the stock carb, please let me know?

Just note that here by use we use HP and Torque (Nm), not Torque (Ft) like you guys use in the USA. Nm torque is a bit higher than Ft torque.
