ds cheap power
#1
i know on the yfz you can adjust one of the cams to add a good amount of power. i am wondering if there are any tricks for the ds that will add some easy HP, maybe not cams but timing? i am looking into getting some parts from mrHP but i wont be able to buy those right away due to money flow.

thanx for the support DunePatrol, i saw the thread on modding your stock carb but i would rather buy a new one with a ported intake. i cant find any threads on modding the cam timing so im guessing no one has found any gains from it. DunePatrol did you get your 14:1 piston before you had the stage 2 work done. i am guessing your stage 2 is cams and porting, i am wondering if i would benifit from bumping up to 11.5:1 with a bigger carb but not having any head work done?

I got my 14:1 after I had my other work done. You cant do the exhaust cam mod like on the YFZ cuz the gear teeth are too big on the DS - Its too much of a jump. You might consider an inexpensive CDI, or some sort of an end cap. Next I would think about a decent carb, but thats probably more than you want to spend right now. After that, a piston and cam combo is not a bad idea. Whatever piston you choose, make sure to run the right octane recommened for that compression piston. The 11.5:1 piston need to have 98 octane. I just talked to someone yesterday from Cali and he asked me if there were better head gaskets out there. He blew one after 2 hours of riding. I asked him what piston he was running, and what octane of fuel. He was running the 11.5:1 with 93 octane - Pre-ignition just pushed it right out!
