I haven't heard of a 660. There is no motor in rotax's current linup that is a 660....what are they going to do, pump up the current 650 to a 660? Such little displacement bump would be minimal at best with regards to performance... I mean, what would be that strategy? Is this the conversation??? "Well, Yamaha finally left that all important 660 class open...let's be second best and go after that market. I'm sure Honda will release a 650, so at least our displacement won't be the lowest..." No sense at all.
As for the Aprilla, I wouldn't hold your breath. It is a 450 that is physically as big as a 650, has a screaming powerband that really wouldn't be that much fun to ride outside of open areas and dunes......it would be the new Banshee, and with how much people slap Banshees around for their lightswitch powerband, why would you want the same, but with higher upkeep costs?

Lack of new ideas? What do you call the new 800? Just because it is not a racing style, does not mean it is not a new idea. Heck, from what I read, it is doing pretty well on the GNCC circuits.
Not bashing, just wondering what they have to do to make you happy.
I know that we all looking for different things from BRP and to a lot of us non racers, the 800 fit the bill.
I also think that if they were to make a 660 (twin 330 heads) and it was really a 660cc, they it will be a great selling product and would fill the gap in between the 400 and the 800.
Just tossing out some thoughts..

I think i woke up in a dream..... I think the ds is just fine the way it is besides the weight... Because no matter how big they build a machine with great power we as comsumers will always want it,bigger@bigger, with more power so i think that we should be happy with what we got..

Actually it makes perfect sense and I believe most here are talking about an Outlander and not a sport bike.
They also didn't have an 800 so they simply made a twin 400, they have the exact same platform to make a twin 330. Using the exact same strategy as they used on the 330, simply put shorter pistons into the same 800 engine with a few other modified parts and voila! THere is your 660 Outlander. BTW, I've had more then one dealer tell me this quad is in the works but won't be released anytime "soon". This would plug the sport/utility gap between the 400 and 800 perfectly.
BRP already has the DS650, so your second best comment doesn't exactly make any sense, it was the most powerful stock sport quad until the new 680 Raptor was released and with a few simple mods I'm pretty sure the DS can keep up with the new Raptor.
I also think a twin 660 Rotax would probably outperform both Honda's new 675 EFI Rincon and the 700 King Quad, both singles.

BRP has developed a type of 2 stroke engine for its Evinrude motors that actually produces less emissions then traditional four strokes................How long will it take to filter down to ATV's??
