Looking for Dyno results of regular 87 vs. Super 91
#1
Hi folks,
I am just curious if I am seeing any gain at all running Super Unleaded 91 octane gas in my stock compression DS?
What with gas being a drain on all of our wallets lately I am just curious if any one has some HP/Torque results of a stock piston/compression bike with 87 vs. 91 octane Gasoline?
I think I feel a slight difference but sure would like to see some real Dyno facts.
I think I may be feeling that placebo effect. I know I feel it in the truck when I haul all my crap out but don't know about the quad.

You wont see any hp gain. Octane levels do not make HP it prevents detonation problems, pinging and such. I wouldnt run 87 octane you can get away with it at higher elevations but I wouldnt at sea level. BRP recommends 91 I think. I wouldnt go lower than that. The higher your compression is the more octane you need. The higher the octane is the cooler it burns preventing detonation. Hope this helps.

Well I run 91 octane with 11.5:1 compression so I doubt 91 is at all required with stock compression. I have always run 87 on my stock piston DS without any signs of detonation or pinging. MrHP even recommends running 87 on a stock machine and I believe he has stated on more than one ocassion that he has seen small differences on the dyno running 87 as opposed to 91.

Thanks,
That's kind of what I figured too,
I think I may just be waisting my money on the super unleaded till I really swap out the pistons and bump up the compression but I am dropping the bike off at Alba to get her Dyno tuned (the only place that I know of) and was wondering if I should set it for super or regular. I am really intreagued as to what the bike really puts out as far a HP and TORQUE goes after the few mods I have done.
Thanks for the help
