Default Switching Throttle To Left Side

I am looking to buy an Outty 800. I had a stroke. I can hang on to the handlebars but can't open my right hand. Does anyone know if it's possible to move the throttle to the left side?

I'm sure it could be done. You will have to find someone in your area to help you customize something that works for you. Its ironic that you posted this as I ride with a guy that had a stroke and he lost the movement in his left arm. He uses a sling that holds his arm to his left side and rides only using his right hand. He owns a Kawasaki 700.
Its great to see you still have the urge to get out there and ride even after experiencing a medical condition like you had. If you lived in NJ I would tell you to come over and we would definitely get you hooked up. Would it be possible for you to use a twist throttle with your right hand ? Either way good luck and happy riding. D

didn't jet ski's used to have a finger throttle that you pulled on? if you could get one of those, that would be in the correct position for the left thumb. But like mrneg said, my first thought was a twist throttle.

I cant use my wrist because I cant twist it. Its really stiff right now. I could wait till next year and see how I improve but yhose outy 800s make me want one now. Im 34 yrs old and the stroke paralized my right side I couldnt walk for a month. Now i limp around and have trouble with my right hand. I i cant open it.. This isnt going to stop me from riding! If you have any picswith a throttle on the left side or any ideas just let me know. Thanks

By simply swapping the left and right control clusters across the bars, have the lights-start button, etc. on the right side to operate as need be with any hand, install the thumb throttle upside down on the left side and use index finger to pull the throttle toward you instead of a thumb-push, just an idea.

how about a twist throttle on the left side. you would be twisting it forward rather than back.

i think u could get one off of a snowmobile. good luck..... i def. wouldnt stop riding either, lol. but if u* dont find anything for the left side u could always get a twist trottle and twist forward instead of back. like busmechanic said.

jsepp,

i would wait and continue with the therapy...the quicker you get in therapy and start working it the more you will get back..

the amount you get back is directly related to how soon you get going and how hard you try,

how severe was the stroke..very young

just be patient and beleive in yourself, youll be back and we will be here waiting to hear the great news!

throttle on left in like saying you will never be ok on the right

good luck
