Heel guard question??

I'd go with 3 inches of sag and then tinker with your rebound and preload. You'll have it nailed after a few runs and it's not at all difficult to adjust.
Also, if you go with the IMS footpegs and get an aftermarket bracket for the fender then there's no need to worry about tire rub.

Topper,
Its going to be difficult to determine what a noise sounds like on a forum. I suggest that you simply consider it may be the chain. No matter how tight the chain is, it will come on contact with the chain roller. The stock chain roller is hard plastic, and that noise is normal for the DS. Now, whether that noise is the same noise you are hearing will be up to you to determine. I suggest having someone watch the chain as you ride it and see if the noise is directly related to chain roller impacts from the chain. Still confused?

Thanks for your help again........... I did look real close at the heel guards and I see no marks from the tires hitting them....... Maybe it is the chain roller? Does it sound like I have the chain adjusted right? It goes into the shop next Monday for a full service and a valve adjustment. (I got them to do it for free once I bought it). I'm heading to the Oregon Dunes on the 21st - 25th, I don't want to have any problems..... Thanks again!
If anyone has some pics to post of their heel guards trimmed, please feel free to do so.

It does sound to me as if you have the chain adjusted correctly.
The only other noise I can think of would be the cam chain tensionor - but thats more forward than the chain - If the cam chain tensionor was collapsed, then it would make the noise when the quad was running, whether you were traveling or not. It sounds to me your noise only happens when your quad is traveling.

I just got home to inspect (sp?) my rear fenders (heel guards) to see if there are any tire marks. Guess what, there aren't any BUT there are marks on my chain roller. I think that is the noise I'm hearing. That makes me feel a little better. I did go ahead and trim off the little ears off the heel guards for just in case purposes. I'm looking forward to riding this weekend to see how the new tires will preform. Thanks again for everyone's help.
