Default dis is whack!

Chosen don't feel so bad. I broke a cam once. A bud of mine put the cam sprocket incorrectly and I didn't inspect and it broke the cam when it was running and bent valves. It could be a lot worse. Stock cams can be hard to come by there was some on Ebay recently. I have a set of RWR 1st Gen cams I will be parting with soon not sure how soon you need them.

It's mistakes like this you learn from.

And to think of how many times I have been in there and torn apart that cam bridge, only to do this. Not once but again after something obviously wasn't right the first time.

Now everything makes sense. The timing seemed out of whack, vaccuum on the exhaust, compression on the intake, this all happening when the valves overlap.......well sh!tty.

So next question i guess here.....Does anyone have some cams they want to get rid of? I need 2 exhaust cams, either both stock, or a set of aftermarket cams, and a stock exhaust cam. Will it hurt anything to run with it like that in the mean time?

edit:the cam lobes did look like there was something a bit odd about them when they were opposing each other... they were both tilted downward a bit more than usual it seemed.....

and it makes sense. Why would you have a decompressor on an intake cam when during the intake stroke you want all the compression you can get?

DUH!
feel free to lugh at me, I'll be sulking in the corner.

Man, we have all been their before, you do something so many times it becomes second nature, then when trouble-shooting you can't see the forest for the tree's!! LMAO!

if you saying your cam is broke , cause the decompressor is broke, then dont worry. alot of guys take them things out volentarily. At FSW2 my decompressor didn't release and keeped my exhaust valve open, until I burned the valve out. Thank goodness AZSAND had a bunch of spare parts in his trailor!! He gave me an exhaust valve, Then Bob Craycraft let me and DSmike use his trailer and all the his tools, and within about 2 hours we put a new Valve in my head, and I was going strong again. from then on I never ran a set of cams with the decompressor.

If you really BROKE your cam, I will look, I should have my origional set of cams, your welcome to them, but you wont find the any decompressor on the exhaust cam

I agree, this is a great forum with a lot of knowledgeable people very willing to help any way they can. The biggest thing is there isn't all of the well you're stupid for doing this in the beginning or my decompressor decompresses faster than yours does kind of crap.

Hats off to everyone on here, and you all know who you are!

On topic, I didn't break the cam where it effects the lobes or anything, but on the end of the cam, the casting where the pin for the decompressor goes through, One of the ears broke off. It doesn't hurt anything, just concerns me about being off balance a bit. I'll see how well I can grind it evenly so it's balanced, and I think it will be fine.

I'm on my way to change the cams around and we'll see where we stand there. My jetting is now so outta whack I'll have to do that again, but at least this time I'll be able to notice the changes it's making. And I think I remember most of where I began anyways.

I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Once again thanks everyone, and another (hopefully)sucessful story all wrapped up

Default dis is whack!

Well here it is~

I ground down the end of the cam, it now looks almost perfessionally manufactured like that, I'm impressed. Anyways, threw that in, obtained my correct clearances, jetted the carb, and got everything ready to go.
Hit the button, and Bam, fired right up
Pulls pretty good, took it out for a ride, and it has noticable power gains, but I couldn't quite judge correctly, as I just put 22's on the back and haven't switched the gearing yet to get it back to stock. First ride on the tires as well. I could just barely rev out....and I think I'm jetted off a bit still. It's as follows:
190 mikuni main
needle fourth from the top
4 1/8 inch ports in slide
spring at 3 3/8 inches
45 pilot
air screw about 4 turns out
lid off
snorkles cut to approx 12 inches

I know it has more in there, but I'm not too worried, as my TM45 should be knockin at the door any day now, and the alky is in the can waitin, so that solves that.

once again, thanks everyone for everything, would have gone nuts otherwise!
