My neighbors 700 crapter has a slight problem, within 5 seconds after starting the bike the pipes are so hot it will cook the meat off your hand. within 20 seconds the pipes are cherry red. we thought we heard some chatter down on the right hand side of the bike, could it have jumped out of timimg or something like that? It runs good but why the glow. i know this is the bomb forum but this is bomb related. if it is serious he will be riding one of my bombs.

I have also heard of bikes running fat with glowing headers. Un burnt fuel in the cylinder, will burn in the headers. It can be lean or fat & have glowing headers. What do the plugs look like?

I use to ride a 04' Yamaha WR450 and it's 100% normal for the head pipe to glow cherry red with in seconds from starting up. No worries....

They will glow if it is to lean or way to rich, but beings that it is injected I would say it isnt doing either unless something is messed up in the computer or something. I have also seen headers glow due to the tubing being made out of thin material. This is real common on cheap headers for cars.

Also, depending on what the headers are, especially if they are aftermarket. My trinity racing exhaust's headers glow. I called the company and they stated that this was normal and to be expected.
