Default Octane for 14:1 piston

I see that HPR recommends 116 and I spoke with Flyinds wo is also running 116 on his new build. Is anyone running 114 without any signs of detonation? The reason I ask is that several places locally sell 114 but not 116. Its a little harder to find 116 octane.

we are naturally leaning on the safe side. All fuels are different- octane is not everything- the best thing to do is call the 800# of the manufacturer and ask what compression that particular octane will handle - some can handle more compression. Try to find a Sunoco dealer.

I generally run alky but I have put several tanks of 110 through mine with a 14-1. When I took it apart for shift forks there were no signs of detonation.

Wow only 100 octane! So how much does elevation affect octane requirements?

Anybody run VP? Most places around here sell VP or Sunoco

i know htis is'nt a honda forum, but i run vp's c12 with 13.5;1 comp. tore the top end off today for a sparks 470cc build and everything was perfect with about 30hrs. on the old sparks/je 13.5;1 standard bore i took out today. it's rated at 108 octane and good up to15;1 comp. there are differences in octane ratings aswell like motor, research and burn rates.

Engineer, we ran straight 110vp for a while, then tried the switch to a mix of 50-50, vp110 to 91 pump, since thats what we were running in our other bikes. Doesnt seem to mind it at all. Elevation plays a huge role on what octane is needed. I know of some very fast honda 450's in St Anns that run straight pump 91 in there 13.5 bike. And run straight 91 in the 12-1 nitrous machines. They have bigger fruits than me though.

For some reason the VP C12 for me works better at keeping pre-ignition away than normal race 110. I dont know why that is, but its what I have experienced.
