Default DS frustration!!

Okay i am getting really mad at this. I stripped out both the screws on the top of the carb, and i figured the bottem i wouldnt do that, but guess what? i stripped out one and didnt try to take off any others, i tried to get the one that was stripped with a vice grips, and the head of the screw it too thin to get a good grip. I am extremly mad at bombadier, i swear these are the cheapest screw i have ever seen in my life, the 5 cent screws i boguht at the hardwear store are 100x's stronger. so now what do i do?

the holes are not striped out are they, if they are they might need to be retaped. I would say go to your hardware store and find some replacement screws for the carb, if it is only the screws that are striped out. The carb is a pain to work on. Just have a beverage and try agian.

yeah its just the screw head that is stripped, its gonna be a pain to get them out because the heads are 2 mm thick maybe and the little vice grip can barely lock on, im gonna have to see what i can do later on tonight

Part of the reason they stripped to begin with is they are seized. Get your carb on the bench and get some WD-40 working on the threads (keep it out of the carb though) while you have your beverage. Then you won't need such a good grip with your vice-grips to get them out. Use stainless steel screws if you can find them when you put it back together. They are stronger and should break loose before they strip next time you need to get into it.

Heres how I do It, Get the carb out and on the bench. Take a sharp chisle and on top the screw head on the edge put the chisle at an angle and tap with a hammer gently a few times the screw will break free. Replace with 5mm stainless hex head screws and you will never have a problem again

the carb is made by mikuni, they are the ones putting in the junk screws, its a very common problem on most bikes aside from bomb.
most cases, light taps on the bench with an impact driver breaks them free. if the heads are too far stripped now, you may have to drill them off. just drill the head off, leaving the threaded screw still sticking out the body, then when the bowl or cap is outa the way you can grab the screw with vise grips.

What I had to do on one of mine before is take a dremel and grind a slot in the top of the screw head. Then I used a flat head screwdriver and it came right out.

Needle nose vice grips is what i had to use.I also had to give them
a light tap to free them up.
