Default Air filter

Just bought a K&N Air Filter, am I o.k. to install it with no other mods? Also, how do you get the old one out? Is it held in with a screw or something? Thanks for any help, I would rather do it the right way than by learning the hard way.

there is an access hole with a plug in it on the top front right side of the airbox just next to the lid. pull the plug and a screwdrive can be inserted here to loosen the large clamp holding the filter in place.

make sure your K&N is oiled well, its the oil that catches the dirt, too little oil and dirt gets thru. too much oil hurts nothing, but drips in the aribox. its best to overoil it, then leave it sit on a rag on the bench small end down overnight for excess to drip off before install.

outerwears are awesome, they really cut down on filter cleaning. I clean the outerwear alone several times before I have to clean the filter.

Seriously, like Hightower said, get the outerwear. About five quick cleanings to one for the filter, and I run no airbox and ride primarily in the desert and dunes.

It is hard getting used to not having an airbox as I have been so acustomed to running one. the 730 runs the no toil with outerwear - no box, and the 03 has KN with outerwear in box. The outerwears are awesome, because as mentioned you just rinse them out till you can see there is no more crud on it, and then stick it back over.

O.K., outerwears it is, where is the best place to get one? Hey, aceisback, Semper Fi, spent ten years in the Corps. I wanted to retire, but got injured leaping out of a helicopter and I became mortal. Then shortly after, got orders for recruiter somewhere in northern Idaho. Never really recovered totally from injuries, didn't matter though, turned down orders for recruiter and the Corps put me out. No regrets though, Corps got me to California and thats where I met my wife. Another reason I got out, she has a great job and if the Marines wanted you to have a wife, then they would have issued you one. I love the job I have now, but in no way does it compare to being a Marine. Being a Marine is something only other Marines really understand. Ooohrah and thanks for the help.
