Has he made any recent mods or did it just start out of the blue?

That would make me think that something just is clogged in the carb. I have heard that Raptors need to have their carbs broken down and cleaned after a period of time... wait what year is it... carburated or EFI?

Yea ok... so what I was starting to say was that several of the raptors I ride with have had to have the carb totally broken down and cleaned... in fact I think the YFZ suffers from the same finicky carb. My YFZ buddy had a problem where the bowl would not fill due to the bowl screw being ceezed shut after leaving the gas on. I would take the carb off and give it a good cleaning, lots of crab cleaner. Make sure the bowl is getting fuel, and that the carb is basically operating correctly. Its a start. Since he had no recent mods I would put money on something being clogged up.

Make sure the choke is disengaging. There is a choke plunger that sometimes sticks within the carb. It's cheap to replace.
