Default 2006 ds

hey guys i just bought a 2006 ds 650 and im picking it up tomorrow. I was wondering how the stock tires were. I looked at the air filter 2 and it didnt seem to have very much oil on it. It was blue and it also looked pretty thin. Is there anything else i need to know about with them. I heard they are very reliable i hope this is true. Thanks

The tires are okay but I'm much happier with Pro Wedge IIs on it. The DS is the softest sport ride out there and the pro wedges make it better.

I had trouble with the oil check valve on mine. They had to tear it down when I first bought it and fix it. I'm on my 4th clutch in 2 1/2 years.

If your a big guy, first thing you will want to do is, set the sag on the rear shock. That way it doesnt eat the chain roller.

The Ds is very reliable quad. Some years had problems but most have been fixed. Congrads on the new quad and welcome to the forums.

400catdriver, whats your clutch setup? Are you using the stock springs?? If so upgrade them to the ron woods 60% springs. They held up for me for 2 years of hard drag racing on sand, dirt, and pavement.

fxrider9382, if you want some accurate response, tell us where you will be riding (sand, trail, open high speed)....usually pick one. Then how much you weigh. How experienced you are on a quad.

I have 22" & 23" Maxxis Razr's for my desert riding and sand stars for sand. I also have a K&N air filter that came with my end cap in a kit from ODP. Reliable.......yes but that dosent mean it will run without oil......it will but not long.

I have an 06 DS have had it since last June when they were released - only problem so far is I have an upper head gasket seeping anti freeze which I am going to fix this week. Other than that wide open. From experience like mentioned above replace your clutch springs with some that are heavier to extend the clutch life. This is my second DS and like the first this one took some time getting used to but all in all they get it done. If you are going to do a lot of woods riding I would suggest moving to a 15 tooth front sprocket to put down a little more power sooner.

You might want to think about a battery tender also. Seems to be lots of dead batteries going around.

will replacing your clutch springs do anything to the warranty. I got a 3 year warranty with it. the only thing i plan on doing is getting a pipe sometime in the future and probably change the sprocket like 04DS650 said.

well i finally rode it today, it really needs some more torque in first and second gear, will a pipe help that out a lot because i dunno if i want to change the sprocket or not i really like the gearing it has, the shocks are alright they seem alittle stiff though, other than that i think im going to like it once i get use to how big it is

Welcome to the forum, you will fit in fine.........already wanting to do mods
A pipe will help, you can rejet the carb, open up the airbox. Tons of options.
If you are not wanting to put money into it right away do a search on Stock Carb mods from Old Man Racing. I have a fifferent set up, but those that have completed those mods have really liked them.
Many people on here with better expertise than I will ever have, but sit back and read, you will learn allot!
Good luck, great quad!
