What in the heck is this all about? I'v just read the DW magazine artical on the Ds vs. Raptor shootout. In the end of the shootout They said the raptor is 800$ cheaper. I'v also heard this from other magazines, or even here on this forum. They say 800$ cheaper, but Yamaha is charging more then retail for this "RAPTOR". They are selling them as fast as they get then, so almost EVERY raptor is being sold for MORE then retail. I'v heard of raptor owners paying 7000 or MORE for there raptor, so is it really fair to say that the Raptor is 800$ less? If it "IS" fair, then what should be stopping Bombardier from Lowering the Ds's retail to $6,000 and charging $7,100? Thats exactly what Yamaha is doing so why shouldnt Bombadier?! They also mention "problems Built INTO the Ds", well to me those problems were very easy to get over, and now I accept the shortcomming and learn to ride with it. I dont find myself wanting new aarms, or Stage I kit. I'll simply buy a Ron Woods CDI and remove the rev limiter, then they wont be able to complain about the "hard hitting" rev Limiter. Get Rid of that limiter, and then see how the shootout goes?
I'm blowing my steam, noone else seems to see things the same way as me, and i'm not asking you to, just something to think about.

Yamaha isn't selling them for more than MSRP, it's the greedy dealers who are. It's supply and demand. Some dealers actually have sold some Raptors for less than MSRP. I found a good dealer and got a great deal.

Here the DS is for sale 8500$can for a brand new 2001 stock model, and there's a Raptor for sale at 9000$can with pro Taper, Holeshot tires, and some other stuff. Price seems to be fairly equal to me.

300, you hit the nail on the head when you said supply and demand. The raptor retails for 6499. Some dealer are charging higher price because everyone wants to buy a raptor. I found a dealer that was selling for retial only, guess I got lucky. The dealer around here in ohio are only charging 5999 for a new ds. This might be because there is a lot of mx and trails out this way but no sand?!

I know of one, out the door, with insurance, $10,000! He paid extra because of "supply and demand".

I bought my DS on the first day it hit the market, the last of four that were shipped that day and I got it for less than MSRP! You couldn't even get another DS from that dealer for two months, unless you were there when the crates came in! Did they charge more for supply and demand? NO!

What a joke on Yamaha fans. Of course, their gullable enough to buy a hopped up Banshee with a dual purpose motor in it to begin with, so go figure! :-)
