Starting from Scratch
#1
It's time to start Project DS 03'. It was crashed @ the sand drags in Glamis, Halloween Weekend 04'. Crash test estimate says everything is bent back over 1 1/2 inches. No worries I have another 03' with dual LTE exhaust. I'm a little out of the loop on product and want your opinions to build Project DS to be different from it's working brother. I always ride desert and do 1-2 trips to the dunes a year. Does it have to be an 03' frame or could I get a different year? A-arms (stock length) - full set - Armadillo, Epic or stock bottoms with ASR tops or something else? Spindles - is there aftermarket or go with 03' factory or newer factory? Black Widow Works Shocks, any good? I want a -1 swingarm, any aftermarket that accomadate a skid plate? The 04' and up factory swing arm is half the price of an 03', but what would I have to modify to make it work? The radiator has a bang on it so it makes me just want to replace it, what are my options? I was happy with the Trinity exhaust but what's new? Who makes the better overall carb that doesn't need to be adjusted all the time and can keep the air filter in a box? Who has the good steering stems? Going to put an IMS tank. Lonestar axle or other? I keep bending my rims. Bead lock or with outer rings? Plastic's - Factory or Lacker(On-dunes)? Thank You in advance for the feedback.

well to answer atleast some of you ?'s mr horsepower's lectron carbs are problably the best and you can get hubs that are cut which will save rotating mass and you will be able to also use honda and yamaha tires with these hubs that are machined. Pwr sells a radiator. as for the shocks I couldn't tell you since I still have stock but I heard someone earlier talk about fox air shocks.I have an alba full system on my 01 ds650 and am very happy with it but now they only sell the slip on I believe but the lte are pretty sweet looking and get the same power gains as my alba or atleast they said it would.
here is mr hp's site and on dunes which is also a good site.

no prob just trying to help you out a little bit also there is tvi power and sports which has bomb stuff but I would recommend Mr. Hp, tvi or ds works they are both the same thing but a different section of the company. They sell some pretty cool accent pieces for the ds engine. Either one of you guys I'm not sure but on the ds does the sprocket hub need to be pressed on.
Thanks,
Brett

Bombar818,
Welcome to the forums! I'm your neighbor up in the next valley to the north. Sandaholic who is also on these forums lives in Northridge, not far from you & we both hit Dumont, Glamis & Pismo all the time. Or used to - both of us have been so busy with life I don't think either one of us has ridden in several months (at least not last I heard.) Anyhow maybe we'll meet up with you out at the dunes one of these days. I've got the Loctron that was mentioned earlier from HPR and it is a very good product.

Viper,
I don't want to miss Labor Day in Utah - but I've been soo amazingly busy this summer with work I haven't even sat on my DSs in several months. (Climbing over them to get stuff out of the rafters doesn't count.) The weekend the races were on in Pismo was the second day after we had just bought a brand new 4x4 so I didn't want to tow with it until we got at least 1000 miles on it to break it in. (We did drive up there and try out the 4x4 on the sand for about 30 minutes though.)
I've been training a guy to help out with our business so by September he should be good to go on his own for a couple of days so I can take off to Utah. (Never been there, so it should be pretty cool.)

This is kind of the turning point for my wife and I - we've been looking forward to the point when we hire another person so that we can actually take a real vacation. Up until now, we've had to settle for at most a 4 day vacation. Leave Thursday night after work, take off Friday, come back Monday in the afternoon and be ready for work on Tuesday. And since last summer, things have been so busy that we can't even do that.
This September will be a good month for me - a short vacation for DS Days and on our 1st anniversary we'll be finally taking our honeymoon and first real vacation - 7 days cruise to Mexico. Since I graduated HS, I've never taken 7 days off for anything, ever so this will seem VERY weird (in a good way.)
The good thing about being this busy is that I'll eventually be buying more parts for the ATVs, suspension, power, who knows. I'm looking forward to it for sure!
