Default yzf450 vs 450r

i know this is not the honda or yamaha forum the reason i didnt go there beacuse im not going to get any straight answers.

anyways im shopping for a yfz450 or 450r not for me but for my brother i tried to get him to get him into the ds650 buts its way to big for him and he want something light that he can toss around so wich one of these machines has less problems and doesnt requir maitnace as much thanks.

Alright man i cant really tell you about the yfz 450,BUT my cousins both have 450r's.And they rarely do anything to them. And none of us are mechanicly smart when it comes to quad engines. They also really ride there quads, beat them to death. No problems(the case on the engine was cracked once)But other than that no problems.Low maintenence,I heard the yfz has high maintenence but know expirience with that.I know you didnt say the suzuki lt-r 450,but thats my choice. However you can find used yfz's and 450r for around 4,000 to 6,000.The suzukis expensive. My advice "you get what you pay for"Hope that helps at all,450er has less maintenence.

Here is my short opinion of the 2 from riding with them both.

They are both great quads and both are going to require more maintenance than most others (mainly more oil changes) but if kept up wont have many problems. I think most other things just come from the way people ride them.

I think the 450r is a little faster (this was close enough it could very well be riders) but the YFZ handles a little better.

The YFZ to me feels smaller to sit on and the 450r is a little more comfortable for me.

My seat time on them both isnt alot and I have more ride time with the YFZ but I think they are both fun quads and it really would come down to personal preference.

If I had to pick I would pick the one I was most comfortable on and that would be the 450r.

Maintenance requirements are going to be pretty equal between the 2. The Honda is even needier when it comes to frequent oil changes, but otherwise both are pretty reliable parts wise. I have had a YFZ for 1 1/2 years now, and have only had 3 small mechanical problems. First I had water get into the starter button/kill switch and had to clean off the electrical contacts. I sealed that up and haven't had a recurrence since. Second my taillight fell off at an mx track, but it was also somewhat rigged on because I upgraded to an aftermarket grab bar. If it had been left stock I don't think it would have come off. Third I had a spark plug go bad. It would spark against the frame, but not under compression. I can't speak much to the Hondas, because I just don't ride with them that often. The vast majority of breakdowns I have seen have been from crashes or suspect maintenance regardless of brand.

No, but I could walk into a BMW dealership and ask them how they feel about raining clouds.:

Fatholly - I bet there is a BMW dealership in Tallavast, FL that would have nothing good to say when rain clouds approach

Every 10 hours, maybe if you are just racing with it. For trailriding and general use no way.
