Living here in California and looking for a new ride, I'm curious to find out if the DS650 is able to get a green sticker. Too many places I go with my family are starting to look for it and I'd like my bike to be able to comply. Any one out ther know for sure? Thanks for the info.

 

Yes the 2001 DS has the CARB approved sticker, it is under the seat.

 

My 2000 model came with a green sticker also.

When you register an OHV in Calif you get either a green or red sticker. A green one let you ride year round a red on let you ride only during part of the year. The money from the registration is suppose to go to OHV usage but the State has stolen over $45 million from it. The OHV groups sued and won now the State has to repay it.

 

I don't really need a sticker unless I ride in a National Park, I just picked it up incase I strayed into a park or on state land this sticker is like a boat registration , its good for about three years. It only cost 7.00. this is cheaper
than a 75 dollar ticket...

Ya, having a green sticker is almost mandatory here in California. Every riding area has a certain time of the year ranging from one month to all year long. It's a bummer to know that some of you favorite areas are closed to you for 90% of the year unless you have the proper sticker. The restrictions are even tighter here in the Southern California area. You can always risk it and go anyway but the really scary part is that there are no definite citation amounts. They can issue you a ticket for however much they feel the infraction warrants. Fun stuff eh? Thank you California for screwing the people time and time again.

 

Are the stickers simple to obtain???
Is it just a matter of taking your registration
to a lic. bureau and paying for a red or green sticker?? Do you get any of these stickers if you buy a new quad in calif. from dealer????

 

In fact, the stickers themselves are quite easily obtained. When you buy a new off road bike or atv you get a sticker in the mail from the DMV. When buying a used off road vehicle, and you get the registration done at the DMV, you will also receive one. The "green" and "red" stickers are given to vehicles on the basis of applicable rules set up by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Any offroad vehicle, 2 and 4 stroke, with a manufacture date of 1997 and prior will get a "green" sticker. This allows for year round access to anywhere off road vehicles are permitted (which is still quite small and shrinking rapidly). The "red" sticker is given to all 2 strokes that are manufactured with from 1998 and on. What really has been chaping my hide is the fact that 4 strokes can also be the target of the "red" sticker. These 4 strokes, and i'm not quite sure how, seem to fail the requirement set up by CARB. That's what led me to ask the original question of whether or not the DS650 was able to get a green sticker. It's a real pisser when you want to by a new bike and get turned away at the gate when the rangers sees you're red.
