Default WORSE DAY EVER!!!!!!!!

I know i am on the Bomb forum.....but most of my friends ride DS's so i fgured i would tell the story on here. For those of you that dont know me or my bike.....my name is Kane and i am from Omaha Nebraska.
I ride a 01 raptor that was a 686.... and a fast one to boot! I recently embarked into doing a 720(686 with a 4mm stroke) because of the 686 being wore out! I started by getting the cylinder measured and and having to resleeve and freshly bore back to a 102mm. while i was at it i put in a new Hotrods 4mm crank and rod with a Kenz cycle CP12.5:1 piston. While tearing it apart my mechanic found my clutch basket to be in 3 pieces. I ordered up a Weisco clutch basket and had it installed..... long story short on the build, 1 day before the local Genoa Jamboree (which Choose attended) the mechanic installed the sleeve, bored it to 102mm, installed the crank, rod, piston and cylinder and didnt have time to install the head. In the morning i installed the head and got her in and fired up. I had the timing off and didnt know it and heard ticking!
I drove up to Genoa and all my Bomb buddies helped me tear it down and put the cam in right but as soon as it was turned over i snapped a rocker! I believe the rocker was weakend from the timing being off prior to this! Later on i replaced the rocker and put it back together again...... the right way this time. Low and behold the ticking was evident again.....so the machine was turned off ammediatly!
I made an appointment with the mechanic and took her in.....a month goes by and after calling once a week to see if he has gotten anywhere on the bike i decide to show up to the shop and what do i see?
I was told that the mechanic had the day off and the owner of the shop took me back to what i thought would be my shiny old WHITE LIGHTNING.......but what i ran into was a sight for sore eyes!!!!!!
I was told the brand new custom piston hit a valve and was junk, as well as the new sleeve was shot!! Coolant entered the bottom end so the crank bearings are shot! I will get the full report in the morning on the motor so i dont know what else is wrong!
I have 1700.00+ in my hard earned money in this build on top of everything else that was already done to the bike. I dont have another dime to stick in the bike. So what im getting too is i may be forced too part the bike out and cut my losses!!!! It is really a bad day when you find out your already working 6 days a week at your job and then doing side jobs on sunday to build your bike and all the money you just spent building the motor was just wasted. I guess why im saying all of this is im wondering if parting it out is my only option?

but then what? Are you going to quit riding altogether? Do you have another quad? Maybe you can buy a motor for it cheap off ebay or something and ride it in a lesser state of tune for a while. If you plan on riding still after you part it out, then you have the expense of buying another quad and building that one, so I don't see how selling now is cheaper I would just set her aside until you have enough $$ to get it running right.

I understand how you must accept responsibility for the valve hitting the piston, but how did coolant get in to ruin the bearings? How are you responsible for that?

If your credit is good, you can borrow money against quads at about 6.5% on the title........if you find the right credit union. Why not borrow $2500 or so and get it back to where you were trying to go. It would only take a few extra hours per month to have the thing back to $0 again in no time.

That's what I'd do

I agree with everyone else. Why part it out, if your out of money right now just set it aside and take a break from it. We all need breaks when building this stuff. Hell I have been on a break with mine since april, and it is still going to be thrown aside untill next spring. I get tired of wasting money on things like these, so I take a break from it for awhile untill I feel like wasting more money....lol. So I would just put it in the corner of the garage and not worry about it. Hey its just a 4 wheeler...

Yea thats a really nice bike you got there I would def keep it...was it the mechanics fault that the engine isn't in working order anymore I would say so...so maybe you can work out a deal or maybe part out what is still good from the engine that you have and get a fresh one to stick in there...either that or just wait and see if you can get more money to rebuild the engine once again...So to me it sounds like the whole engine is shot but how is the tranny...Good luck in getting it back together but keep the rappy its a pretty nice bike you got there...I wanted to sell my ds650 in the past because I was having rear problems from when I got it used and wanted to sell it becuase I was angry but after a while you will realize how much time and effort you have into the bike and shouldn't throw it away it isn't worth it and I rebuilt the whole rear and now everything is fine and am glad I still have it.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but this is a perfect example as to why stock makes so much more sense to me most of the time.

Sorry about the bad luck.
