Default Rev Box's...Which one....?

To who may be able to help....I have 00 DS...and I bought a Advantage Performance Rev Max ...rev limiter...I was told that it was made by ProCom...and I shouldnt run it because it knocks out the starter because of the re-curving of the timing. I know whats the best....RWR, and Vortex...but I've already paid 130.00 for this box....I'm just wondering if anyone has used this box or is still using it, and maybe knows who makes it...?

not sure on your deal, true maker !! I will vouch for when I was tight with funds, and new to the bomb world, me and Jennifer at procom became quite aquainted four times in fact !!lol If it is a procom they will stand by their product, as long as you have proof of purchase, and send bad cdi to her !! Problem is they have to stand by product time and time and time again!! so if you like being stranded at any giving time then not bad choice for the money !! Cause I assure you it will happen when your not ready for it!! I would send it back get new one keep stock on , sacrifice your extra 1000rpms, till you have funds for a reliable cdi! after all this is your brain, would not bargain with brain surgeon would you !!lol good luck and Semper Fi carlton

I agree with Cloftis. We from what I hear got off easy but others it really cost them. It is not that they stand behind their product or not. It is the other stuff that gets broke because of it. It will end up costing you alot more. Maybe not right away but I wouldn't take the chance. JMO

Im not sticking up for procom because they left me stranded also,
but BigGun is made by procom and i havnt heard of any issues with
them.
If the cdi shows any signs of backlash (horible crunching sound)send it back
and get your money.
You could of got the BigGun at chapperall motors for 91$ with no known issues.

ok...send back the procomm and concider yourself lucky...if you are complaining about 130 bucks you definetly cant put this in..if it goes it will cost you hundreds and i mean hundreds more to replace and repair all the damage they cause....

as far as big gun and procomm being the same they are are from same place(?) but have different mapping/curves and therefore big gun runs safe and have been proven to be good..no issues

vortex is the best but if money is an issue then you have biggun if you want...my 2 cents

Although i reserve the right to be mistaken..............

I don't find any evidence that the Rev Box you are referring to is manufactured by Procom. It may be......I just haven't found a connection yet.

That being said, your rev box has warnings about changing fuel mix for easier starting on some models and Advantage uses earlier ignition advance as a selling point. The former describes one of the solutions for the problems had by Procom, the latter speaks to the cause of the problems had by Procom. From that, draw your own conclusion.

The "kick back" that takes out the sprague clutch is literally pre-ignition trying to turn the crank shaft around backwards. This takes out the sprague eventually because you are using combustion and the immediate stop and redirection of inertia to force a one-way clutch to go the wrong way. That is a tremendous force on those fairly delicate parts.

Higher octane fuel might solve this condition since it is pre-ignition we are dealing with. Also, pre-ignition is much more likely at the extreme low engine speed that is at or right above idle. The timing is the same but the forward inertia of the engine is at its lowest level.

If you have the kick back and are running regular unleaded, try premium. If premium isn't working, take the box off. If you don't have a loud mechanical kick back, don't worry about it...........just run it.

Btw, you will always have some kick back on a mis-start or a stall. The difference between normal kick back and what we are talking about should be obvious. One sounds healthy, the other sounds destructive. The only difference between the two kick backs is one is amplified to a much greater force by pre-ignition due to too much timing advance at extreme low RPM

Good Luck!
