cast600,
Having experience with both the Traxter (alot of experience)and the Grizzly (less experience), gives me the following thoughts.
The Traxter has alot more controllable power, with out having to rev up the engine like the Griz requires, I feel the Griz is alot stiffer, and the Traxter has alot more power to the ground.
We have pushed and pulled with the two and found the Traxter is the easy winner without the need to wind up the engine to high rpm as required in the Grizzly.
After a season of working the Traxter hard and some general riding, it does not burn any oil, is easy on fuel, burns less than the Honda 450ES, and I have no complaints about it, and recommend it highly.
Either way, what ever you do, good luck and enjoy.

cast600,
I have never riddren a Traxter, but I have researched its drive system. As far as I'm concerned, the Traxter 4WD system is the best available! Having said that, I really don't find many similarities between the two. The Grizzly is lighter, more powerful, and tighter turning. The Grizzly has the most torque, and better horsepower. If you are having oil consumption problems and have overheated, then take your machine back to the dealer for repairs, Yamaha has an outstanding record for customer satisfaction! I've got 600 miles on mine in under 5 months. In that time I've changed the oil 3 times, and its never used a drop in between!
If you hear from anyone that says the Grizzly needs to wind up to put any power to the ground, clearly they are either ingnorant or have never ridden a Grizzly! Because it just ain't so!

Have you driven a Traxter? How do you know the Griz has tighter turning radius? Better 4 wheel drive system means better mudding. Can you truely answer his question correctly for both machines? You seem one sided.

As I stated in the first sentence of my post, I have not ridden a Traxter. As far as having less turn radius, I read that in a test/review of the Traxter some time ago, I do not know from experience if that is true. You are correct about the Traxter being a better mudder due to its 4WD system. However its excessive weight would be a liability at the same time. Sorry if I sound one sided, its just because I have never ridden a Traxter. I would love the opportunity to ride one sometime. I think its a good quad, just not well suited to the kind of riding that I like to do. Its a little overweight and under powered.

in my opionion...the grizz is one of the best all sport/utitlty quad you can get(next to the honda rubicon)...the traxter has the best 4wd system but it's heavier..and it has it's down side...and one thing i don't really like how they took out the gas tank...your going to miss that peice for resting your knees....grizz is lighter more torque...traxter heavier less torque...and if you gonna trade it it in take a look at a HONDA RUBICON it will accelerate faster then a bombardier traxter...and has the choice of a auto or electronic shift....and to say the traxter is about the same price as the Rubicon...well that's my opinion..RIDE HARD!
