Default DS250 or Rally

Looking to buy a DS250 or Rally for my son(13) to ride. Any thoughts??? pros/cons? I am hearing good and bad on both models.

We ride in the woods and corn/bean fields.

He has been riding mid size ATV's Badger, Breeze, Bushhog 175.etc... the past 4-5 years. He even gets on my Sportsman 500 HO every now and then goes for a spin. I am really learing torwrds the BRP model since a friend of my now owns a BRP dealer and the price is right!!

definatly a ds 250, rallys are a joke and do not deserve the can am/ brp logo....they have many problems with trannys.

Bought one for the wife and it's ok. She isn't gonna be doing any racing or anything, so it's good enough.

Have you thought about a Honda trx250? He's probably gonna grow tired of the ds. At this point, there aren't many performance parts available, and the ones that are, aren't cheap.

he will probly grow tired of the power really quickly, but i would not get a trx250ex, i dont know how much they cost in the USA but in canada they cost 1400$$ more than a ds250, i could easily beat a trx250ex if i put 1400$$ into my ds250

The ds I looked at, the dealer wouldn't go below 3400 OTD. The trx where I bought my kfx was 3795. Pretty sure you could get it for 3700 OTD. Now, they don't bargain much on prices here, but for 300 bucks, the trx is a much better deal. You could also find a good used one for even less.

so if you live in the USA get a trx250ex, if you live in canada get a ds250 cuz all the can-am/ bombardier quads are cheaper here, probly cuz its a canadian brand i think it is.

USA msrp = cdn msrp/1.6 for honda and suzuki (i dont know about the other brands)
USA msrp = cdn msrp/1.4 (for polaris and can-am)

so buy your po's and can's in canada and the others in usa

Depends on where you live I guess.

Like I said, in Dallas, no dealer, no matter what brand, will come down much off the list price. I could go to Oklahoma, and they'll drop 1000 dollars easily.

Thanks to all for your inputs.

Most of our riding is in the woods on tight trails, a spin out thru the fields to clean the tires. Speed is not as much of a concern as low torque. Going up hills from slow speed starts, crossing muddy creeks and things like that. All I read on these is mixed, they either lovem of hatem. This is true on anything I guess. The DS concerns me due to weight and the rally due to engine size. I do not like the rally shifer at all.

Does anyone know if either of these are ture BRP products or just relabeled? I beleive the DS is mfg by SYM from what I read, but I can not find nothing on the Rally.

The 06 we have is a Sym. Now on the Can-am website, they say the 07 has a Rotax motor. When I was at the dealer looking at an 07, I looked at the motor, and nowhere on it was stamped Rotax. The dealer wasn't sure, but he didn't think they made any of the 250's or smaller.

The reason I wound up with an 06 was mostly luck. A guy bought it, took it out for one ride, and decided to trade it, and the bruin he had bought in for a Harley. Got a basically new quad for 2700.

I just wish they would put out some aftermarket stuff for it.

where does it say that the ds250 has a rotax motor? is it in the features picture where you can hover over certain parts?
i thought it had a sym motor but that it was built under toax specifications, but anyhow, it doesnt really matter who builds the engine, its who design's them, im pretty sure all manufacturers (factories not brands) have good equipment for making parts, and they shouldn't lack in quality
