The early tripple buffs were much lighter but the paddles would rip the carcass after awhile and they didn't hold air well. That has all changed. They are not as light but they are quite a bit thicker and much stronger. I use tripple buffs for duning and trailing and they work great. They hold air and still have good rollout and the hook up is much better than standard hauler carcass's.

If you run over rocky areas on occasions, I would buy double buffed haulers.

I agree with the lightening. Ive got some good ideas on that Ill shoot you a PM. If you go with the triple buffs in an 8" wheel Id get the 9 paddle Extremes. The blade will last alot longer. Part of the problems with paddles are you usually have to ride on some pavement or rough trails to get to the sand and the Extremes take it very well. Go 520, non Oring for me it has less drag. Hubs machined is also a great thing to do.

Well, it looks like I need to start looking for tires, think the double buff would be good for me.

I will be machining the hubs and cleaning up the subframe. I think I read somewhere that for ever 10 lbs you lose its like gaining 1 HP. Even more for the rotating mass.
