Now i have questions about this....i see that u really get a lot of bag for ur buck on this...but...need to know a few things....is there a weight difference with a ds650 stock Vs. a ds1300 hayabusa engine...will it take the abuse like the stocker...and is it reall worth looking in to....does anyone know anything about this...just need to know what to do and were to go...would like to beef up my baby but was wondering if i give her a new powerplant for the same cost as doing some engine work and carbs....lets here what people have to say

Do a search, lots of info around. Maybe contact Supersonic toys on here and I sure he could answer any questions you have. I have been doing a bit of research on the subject myself and read that the Busa engine makes more torque at 3000rpm than the R1 and ZZ11 make at max output. The site I was reading put the Busa at 150hp and the yamaha at 130 and kawasaki at 125hp max. Not sure what you pay for a good Busa motor but I know engine work on the 650 single soon adds the $$$ up with carbs, exhausts, cams, pistons etc. I sure would like to ride one before I chopped my frame in half. Some examples on here look though they come from the factory as a 4 cylinder.

yeah thats why im asking i dont want to chop my frame either if its like a riding a bull and hoping to stay on....i hear u have to make a new tank as well...so theres a lot of little things im sure that need to be keeped in mind...where would i find supersonic toys..

you will need to chop the frame due to the engine difference and need to fabricate new parts of the frame. I was just talking to dstroyer the other day about this and he said that a 750 would be fast enough and can hold it's own, and he also said that it costs somewhere in the 1k range whereas the busa is around 3k.He also said that it is much bettter and reliable then trying to bore out the engine and making it into a 730...the tank will need to be replaced by either aluminum or steel and the people who have done the conversion place them where the airbox usually is.

You can find me here... a DS motor is a great , reliable power plant in stock form. I do agree that any street bike motor will be way more reliable than a pumped ds motor. a 750 motor may be more than enough power to satisfy you . it all does depend on where you ride and what kind of riding you do. I personally like to dune ride and hill race and most of the places I go a 750cc street bike powered quad will be eaten alive. dont get me wrong, if you live in a remote area Im sure a 750 will make you king of the hill just about every weekend of the year but at glamis, dumont, or sand mountain nevada you will be waxed with a vengance and sent back to camp with your tail between your legs. LOL. the last quad I built with a rear mounted fuel tank was probably 5 years ago and Im embarrased to post pics of it. I never liked doing it that way. it was the easy way out and really a half as way to do it. you end up with such a nicer looking bike if you can fabricate a custom aluminum tank and place it in the stock location. it also puts more weight forward , here you need it! anyway, look at it like this. ds motors can be built to run hard but if you had $1,000,000 to spend on a ds motor , send it anyewhere you want to build it with all the best , anyway you wanted to do it, turbo, nitrous, huge bore, stroked crank , whatever! a quad with a stock busa motor in it will spank the same quad with that nasty ds motor in it and will do it all day long for years and years . there is no replacement for cubic displacement Im not knockin the ds motor , thats just the way it is......
supersonic...is there a weight differnce with the busa motor as opposed to the ds...i heard it was about 30 pounds heavier and in comparison a 750 was like a hundred lighter...as for hill climbs things of that nature how does it trail ride??..and what would u charge to hack a frame to fit one as well as new tank?
sorrry supersonic didnt read ur profile...forget i asked about the moding of the frame....lol
im looking for more a trail and hill climber...would the 750 be better for this...wouldnt it be lighter and quick for us oregonians that just want whup some stocker engine ***..lol

oh ment to ask how exstensive is the frame mod...i saw u ad a cross beam for the busa and moded some of the area near the swingarm joint...what else besides the tank?

Supersonic what size tank do you put on the DS after a conversion and not interfere with the filter setup on the busa.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with building your fuel tank in the back. Just about everyone puts it there on the first build. Although, we are placing them upfront now also, just to get a cleaner look, but there is nothing wrong or embarrassing about having the tank in the back. It IS the easiest way to get the job done, and thats why most people have done it. I have a design for our under the shroud tanks now, but that wasnt an easy task to complete.
The 750's are a great duning motor. They do have enough power to satisfy just about everyone, and are alot less expensive, but that doesnt mean that your going to be a slowpoke out in the dunes Gregg. To each his own I always say. Now this is my opinion here, and its just that, an opinion, Just about everyone is on this Busa mindset. They think that its the busa or nothing. They think that the busa is the only motor that will make the dunes fun. If thats what you want, then thats the way to go, but I will tell you, from lots of expierience, the smaller motors are easier to install, require alot less shocks, drink half the fuel, way less expensive to purchase, are much lighter and make a sound at 14000 rpm that makes your heart sing!! I guess Im a hipocrit though, since my turbo busa is just about finished. LOL. Ive never been to glamis, or out west even, although I hope to be this summer, but the smaller motors will hold their own all day long. Sure, they dont have the power the Busa has, but so what, neither did your stock ds, right.
If you have the ability to put your fuel tank up front, then do it, it will look so much nicer. If you dont, you dont have to worry about being embarassed, unless your one of those people that need to be in the spotlight all the time.
