Default 520 coversion question .....Again

I know this is beaten to death.I read many posts. And also went to sidewinder and i wont pay $300 bones for two sprockets and a chain.I know u guys said buy a chain from Rockymountainatv. But whats the link count on a 2005 ds.And the sprockets.I was going to buy the front from rockymountainatv(dont know if they have 520 sprocket for the ds).And now where to get a decently priced rear. Will doing this save me from paying 300 dollars.Havent checked pricing for chain yet.

Default 520 coversion question .....Again

Ron woods has front sprockets for 34.99, They used to have the rears for 60.00. Last time I called them they said they were not carrying the rears anymore. Rears can be had from Sprocket specialist for around 70.00. Not sure what a chain would be from RM. Considerably less than sidewinders price................but, I have been running a sidewinder rear extremely hard for two seasons with almost zero wear! Something to consider. I know the cost is steep but if you go through alot of sprockets like I was the ti-moloy saves you in the long run. Just my .02

The other reason for Sidewinder is you have a lifetime warranty if you run all sidewinder chain and sprockets. So if you do have problems with it than you can contact them and have them take care of it instead of going through sprockets like crazy. JMO.

Default 520 coversion question .....Again

I just bought a 520 set of sprockets (15t front & 40t aluminum rear) from Ron Wood last week, front $35 rear $52.

Here are the weight savings I ended up with over stock.

Stock Chain and sprockets (16tx40t) = 7Lbs 9oz

520 chain (DID ERT2 from Rocky Mountain, 108 links like my stock) Aluminum 40t Rear sprocket (15t front) = 4Lbs 5oz for a savings of 3Lbs 4oz over stock

Wel TheStir thats what i will do.But i dont want a alluminum rear(ron woods).I thought about sidewinder. But regardless doing what you did is a whole lot cheaper than buying the sidewinder sprocket package. So i will do the chain. But it says only a 120 link did ert2 chain. So i will have to cut some links. And ill order the ron woods front sprocket(15t) and sidewinder rear stainless(40t).But thanks for the tip on where i can find the stuff.

Looking at the rocky mountain atv chain the DiD ert2 is the most expensive chain but doesnt have the strongest tensil strenght or its not a x-ring chain or 0 ring.So why this chain.Just curious TheStir.

The advantage of a non O-ring chain such as the DID ERT2 is that it is slightly lighter and has less rolling resistance than an X/O-ring style chain. The advantage of the X/O-ring is that do a better job of keeping dirt/sand out and do not require as much maintenace (cleaning and lubrication) as a non O-ring.
