Default I NEED HELP FAST!!!!

I have been trying for 2 weeks now to get my DS 650 running! I had to put a new battery on, new wiring harnes from the rect., and new plugs, thought for sure that would do the trick. But, I was wrong!

The DS will turn over, but it just won't start! I am getting fire to the plugs and lights and everything work fine....someone told me that it could be something to do with my carb. since it had been sitting for 3 months. So, I took a look at it and yeah, it has to be something to do with it! It is leaking gas when I push the throttle. I was then told that I just need to clean it, but I have no idea where to start!
This is the first quad I have ever owned and as far as that goes, just the second one I have ever been on at all! (The first was a little Blaster, fun, but little)

Please help me I really want to do the work myself, but I just don't know much about the carb.!
I am a fast learner though, so any help would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks to anyone that helps me out!

yea ur carb shouldnt be leaking gas, where is it leaking from? i'd take the carb right off the machine and double check up on everything, if u've got a broke piece inside u dont wanna just mend it, carbs r a tricky deal

go to walmart and buy a spray can of berrymans b12 chemtool. take the carb off and flip it over, remove the crews holding the float bowl on. remove the bowl. now you will see a float , a brass colored main jet in the dead center of the carb and probably down inside the carb near the main jet. there will be a small idle jet. holding the float on will be the float pin. if you look at the area where the float attaches to the carb you will notice that there is a pin which slips through the body of the carb and goes through the float to hold it on. this pin may or may not have a head on it. by looking at both ends you will be able to tell if one end of the pin is larger or not which will show you which way to push the pin to remove it. carefully push the pin out now lift the float carefully and watch the needle lift from the fuel seat so that you can see how in connects to the float so that you can put it back together in the same way it came apart. after the float and fuel needle have both come off the carb the fuel seat will still be on the carb. its that brass thing that the fuel needle come out of. see it? take the can of b12 chemtool carb cleaner and spray the inside of the seat. now spray up through the main jet and through the smaller idle jet which we spoke of earlier. I recomend blowing through these parts with compressed air also and then you should be able to look through the jets and see day light through them. you wont be able to see dylight through the fuel seat. . if this bike was running 3 months ago this is as far as you will need to go with the carb. make sure everything is very clean, place the needle and float back on the carb, slip the pin back through , spray out the float bowl with the chemtool and place the bowl back on the carb, tighten alll bowl srews, put the carb back on the bike. make sure your throttle now opens and closes properly . take out your spark plug and throw it away and put in a new one and see if it fires.

Leaking from where? First thing slow down and work all the way through it. It wont fire at all? Pull a plug and see if its wet. If its wet your wet fouled. replace the plugs. Check you float bowl level. Remove the carb, turn it upside down and remove the float bowl screws. Check the level it should be about 10mm I think from the bowl mounting surface to the line on the float. basically it should paralell (sp) to the bowl mounting surface. Take some carb cleaner to everything inside the bowl you might have something in the valve. Also be sure that the choke is fully off there are two notches in the choke pull. be sure its all the way in. If you not getting fuel pull the tank and remove the valve from the bottom of the tank and clean the filters inside the tank. Be sure that your fuel valve is on and you have flow from the tank. Hope this helps

Definitly check the choke and plugs first! I seen this before.

That will ruin the foam in your seat. I wouldn't do this..........

You would have to be a nut to spray the inside of your seat, I think SST meant the needle & seat inside the carb

if it aint your carb, i would suggest checking the valves and adjusting them if necessary! I know here in WI when its below zero like today i have to give my bike a shot of ether or carb cleaner to get it to fire!

I think RLarryCSwinger's name is an alias, I have seen him before on TV and he does some interesting interviews with some important people from your country. Are you Gerry Springer? Good to know you like quads

Thank you all for your help...I am not really sure who I should listen to as far as the cleaning part and what "NOT" to do, but I am gonna just start by taking the carb off! And then go from there!
Be sure to keep posting with any additional info I might need!

Also, I have read that the factory screws are pretty crappy...what size screws do I need to get to replace them incase I stip the factory ones? I work at a machine shop, so I should be able to find whatever size I need there!

Thanks again,
B
