I have everything wired up and ready to go. The battery was dead so I have charged it. Now when I hit the start button it just makes a rapid clicking noise and never turns over or anything. I've let it charge all the way up, I've tried it on the "engine start" setting with the charger, but nothing seems to make it engage, just alot of clicking. There is something on the back of the battery box, I'm not sure what it is, maybe that's the problem.

This is the first electric start I've owned, so I'm at a loss.

Did you change anything like a CDI or something? I did that with a cheap cdi and ended up changing my rectifier and bought a good cdi, went through 3 batteries in the process. They all sounded like what you are describing.

your battery is too weak to hold a charge. Time for an oddessy battery. You can jump the bike from your car just to fire it up and hear her purr....

Where do you guys come up with these so called fixes, where's the trouble shooting?

What model machine do you have? Have you checked to see if you have battery voltage at the starter when you push the start button? What is your battery voltage, what is the voltage when you try to start it?

Yea I would say that the battery is due for a new one also and I would recommend an odyssey and to get a battery tender to keep on the battery to last even longer...The only other thing that could be going on is if you have a dirty ground and this wil cause your quad to do this and you will wind up frying your cdi, but in your case it sounds like a battery that is due for a new one.

Cluby, ummm the clicking sound he mentioned is the starter solenoid trying to close but there is not enough juice to do it, these bike with their high vibration characteristics kill wet cell batteries in as little as 1-2 years as the internal plates literally vibrate apart. The bike in question is a DS 650 and he is building it from parts of different bikes and most likely has an old battery on it hence the clicking sound. Once jsimonh reports back on jumping the bike and if there are more issues then we'll go down that road.

I will let you guys know tommorow how it turns out. I didn't have time last night and I'm walking out the door now to have a "night out" with the wife.

Dude, stick to three wheeler you have in your avatar...LOL... The guys says he's been trying to charge his battery and there is a clicking noise... I'd put a bunch of money on the battery being bad. The stocker goes bad easily, and the DS needs a battery with a FULL charge... any DS owner who has run the stocker down all the way will know the dreaded click. So realy the "so called fix" that we have "come up with" is actually a known solution to a common problem. No offense Cluby, but if he wanted a bunch of uninformed guesses he could have gone to other sections of the forum... but it makes sense to try other owners first right?

Jsimonh, get yourself an Oddessy PC 545... its the best battery on the market for the DS, and I would bet that it will solve your issues. It's also guarenteed for 3 years... Check this out.
