I don't think you will have a problem with switching the a arms to your '01...The only problem I might see are the tie rods and maybe the shocks, but other then that I would think it would work out fine...Since I believe the length is a little shorter on the newer a arms compared to the older ones so you might need to shorten the tie rods ends or get new ones and they changed the shocks, but as long as the mounting points and travel are the same you should be fine.

The only year they were aluminum is the very first models in the year 2004...late in 2004 they went back to steel uppers and have stayed that way ever since. Glad i got the alluminum uppers but its prob gonne be hard finding them.

...there is a set on ebay right now for the extremely reasonable, "buy-it-now" price of $425!how bad do you want them is the question...Whoa!

I'm one of the lucky few with the aluminum uppers...If they are going for that much I'll part them out before I sell it...

So if you ordered parts for a 2004 DS upper A arm, you would not get the aluminum ones?

I'm pretty certain that production of the aluminum a-arms completely ceased after a few BIG boys met their untimely demise due to catastrophic failure of the ultra light parts...apparently anything remotely aggressive in the way of riding with them is too much. Bomb tried to lighten the DS or at least give a lighter "feel" and then decided to simply draw the line at wheely ability with the shorter/lighter swinger and hubs.

If you were to order a set of '04 uppers from any given distributor the chances of you aquiring the aluminum version is very unlikely...

I ride the hell outta that quad like there is no tommorow and when i ride its that hard 24/7 going maxed out in 5th over bumpy ditches and rocks etc.....havent had one prob since 04 when i got it. Im 212 pounds so im not a heavyweight around here but i jump insanely high and ride hard enough to say that these alum a arms are NOT weak. A head on with something that puts stress on the a arms pushing backwards might have a diff effect but am i mistaken when i say the bottom a arms take the most of it all anyways?
