Default Rear end sits higher with +4 ODP swingarm?

After installing an ODP +4 swingarm my rear end sits a bit higher than before, I had to drop the sag to about 6 inches to get her right, does this sound normal? I would have thought the opposite, stock shock by the way. Thanks.

6" of extra sag does'nt seem normal.....you are gaining additional travel with the longer swinger though.

I was thinking that with the additional leverage of the extended swingarm that I would have to crank up on the preload due to the bike riding lower, hmmmm? Anyone else experience this with an extended swingarm?

any time you go to a longer swing arm you are going to notice the bike gets higher in the rear. if you look at most quads the swing arm pivot bolt is higher than the axle which means the swing arm is angled down hill in the rear . extend the swing arm length and the axle gets even lower which raises the back of the bike. you will have a bit more leverage on the shock which does normally make the rear end a little softer but a +4 isnt much and shouldnt require much change to the shock adjustments. once you get above +8 things realy start getting mushy and big changes to preload and dampening are required. on my +10's I go so far as to relocate the shock mounts top and bottom, moving them both back several inches to compensate .

Many thanks for the explanation, makes sense. For my riding style, I like the rear to ride a bit lowewr so what would be my options? Should I get a zero preload shock? Perhaps have a shock custom built to be shorter? Back off even more preload on my stock shock? I don't jump at all, only fire road riding so I have little concern for bottoming out. As it is right now I have six inches of sag from fully extended to height with me on the quad. Thanks!

i had a +6 built by metal tech in Az. the shoch mount was moved back on the swingarm 1.5 inches. i did however destroy the stock shock after 1 year of riding. had huge bottom out problems to the point that the rwr pipe hit the swinger. so to fix the problem i had works build me a custom set ,front & rear. a little pricey but well worth it.
