Default Broken timing Chain - need help - fast

Hey: Guys

Just put my motor back together tonight and installed in the bike. It turner over a couple of time and a clank noise came out. After that it seemed to turn over very fast. Took the valave cover off to find the timing chain had broke and piled up.

I am still not sure why the chain let go, only thing I can think of is it may have cockeyed when i put the head on last night. Everything seemed to go together all right.

Has anybody replaced a chain with the motor in the chassis, from what I can tell it should be possible.

Does anybody have a chain kicking around - I am heading to the dunes June 1st.

Did the chain actually break or do you just need a new chain tensioner?

Talk to Jeff Ross - He can get you a chain out of his inventory.

Nope, never had or heard of that occuring?

The chain did break. My local dealer here in BC said he could get me a new one over night. The dame thing is a $160 though, or well I guess I should just be happy I can get it in a day.

Spoke to Eric today and he has never seen I chain break either. I am just hoping I did not do any valve damage. (I just had the head ported and valves put in).

I am going to try and put the chain in while the motor is in the chassis. I think I should be able to lower it threw from the top and get it around the lower gear once I remove the side clutch cover.

Crossing my fingers and praying, I am suppose to head to St. A's next Friday

I have not had it apart yet. From the pictures I think you may be right.

I was really hoping that I could sneak it in there. Hopefully I will see a reason why it let go.

I'm not sure about the timing gear. The clutch basket looks to be the easier way to replace the chain from just looking at it.

Thanks Big Daddy

It has been awhile since I had the clutch basket out. After i remove the 6 little bolts and the discs how does the basket come off ??. If I remember it should just slide off after that right ??
