Default Buying a TM48 What else will I need?

Here is what I have on my DS
Big Gun CDI
Jardine slip on exhaust
11.5:1 JE Piston
Web's 109/110 grind cams.
IMS dessert tank (Lectron carbs are out)

I am looking for a carburetor better then my stocker with OMR mods.
I have read tons of posts on the forum and think the TM48 would work best for my riding style.

I was wondering If I could just buy the TM48 from somewhere online?
I need to know what other parts I will need and where to get them.

Who can port my intake for a good price?
What thumb throttle will work if any?
Do I need a special cable? What length?
Will my stock carb main jets fit theTM48?
Will the TM48 fit my stock snorkel and boot?
What size main jet should I start with at 1150 ft above sea level?

If anyone wants to take a stab at any of these questions
I would sure appreciate it.

Let me know if I am forgetting something.
Thanks.

The TM48 is a great carb. You can get the carb and your intake ported from Jeff Ross (THEBOM) at www.thebomracing.com, or from Ron Wood at www.rotax.net.

Your stock thumb throttle and stock cable will work with the TM carbs.

Your stock carb jets will fit but they are whats called the small rounds and the TM carbs come with whats called the big rounds. As long as they are both Mikuni jets the numbers are the same.

Im pretty sure your stock snorkel tube will fit, but the direct mount filter will give you more gains IMO.

Good Luck

Is the Ron Woods Intake adapter necessary to install a TM45 or TM48?

the intake boot from airbox to carb will fit the tm's, but you will need the short rubber boot to mount it to the intake manifold, its about $10 with two clamps from RWR or THEBOM.

the stock throttle works fine, but the stock cable must be modified to be able to fit to the tm's, and it will then never work again with a stock carb. or, you can buy a new cable made to fit the tm's and the stock throttle housing, abotu $35 from RWR or THEBOM.

in stock form the tm's will kill your thumb, but they can be modified to be much better. if you get it from THEBOM, you can arrange for him to send it straight to me for thumb tension mods, then I can send it on to you. I charge nothing for this mod other than shipping, but you will have to spend an extra $12 for a different return spring which THEBOM can provide. it will still be a bit stiffer than stock after this mod, but nowhere near as bad as it would be otherwise.

although a TM is the exact same thing as an HSR, and an HSR can be obtained a little cheaper, getting a TM from RWR or THEBOM means the carb is fitted with an extended aluminum collar in the front for perfect and secure fit, and also will come with a small bracket for fixing the choke **** to your frame in a handy to reach location. And getting it from THEBOM means it'll come with the right needle and pilot, not to mention his long time knowledge of setup and tuning for about every ds application out there.

Thanks Hightower,
Lots of good info, I ended buying a used TM45 on eBay from a forum member. It was purchased from RWR.
It should be jetted pretty close to my area and mods, and have the necessary fittings with pumper activated.
I ended up ordering a throttle cable from Terrycable to work with the Dual Gasser thumb and twist throttle combo.
