2002 Traxter Max
#1
Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone here can tell us where to start, I have a buddy that has an 02 Traxter Max. He said the bike was backfiring the odd time, then it just went dead the other day. Had to tow it home.
He is now trying to troubleshoot his problems and this is all I know. When he turns the key to the on position, the dash lights up then within a second goes out again and the bike will not start. The battery is good, tried the recoiler but it broke on him first pull. He says all his fuses are good. Any ideas on where to start looking? We're really at a loss here.....
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

My WAG is it's in the battery or battery cable. Have him take the battery box cover off and yank around on the battery cables and see if it lights up the pannel. Have him check ALL grounds also. This is a classic voltage problem.
Also switch batteries with a known good one. If I had a dime for every battery I was told was good but was bad I would be rich.

Battery is fine - starting to lean towards the ignition switch or the start/kill switch - can get the bike to turn over if you cross the starter solenoid. Has anyone ever had thew computer go in one of these bikes? We played today holding the start/kill switch and turning the key and the bike would turn over. (Sparatically - sp?)
Any other ideas fellas? Anyone know how many grounds we should be looking for?
Thanks again.

Just an update, he discovered his problem. I'm not sure exactly what the part is but when he unplugged it, the bike will start right up. If you are standing at the front of the bike, it is on the lower left side of the crankcase. When he removed it, the oil drained out. He filled up the oil, unplugged the sensor and wham the bike started right up. He discovered it becuase it started to smoke when trying to work these problems out.
Thanks for suggestions and help everyone just thought I would update you in case it helps anyone else. I will find out exactly what the sensor is next time I talk to him, since I'm sure he was in touch with the local dealer today to find out.
Cheers!
