I need to do my first oil change, get the filter. What oil do you guy use and what problems have you run into doing this. Haven't checked in my book yet but the tech at the dealer say the dry sump will take about a gal. of oil! Is this right? That sound like a lot to me.

Buy a repair manual from youre dealer and follow the directions exactly just make sure you open the bleed screw behind the oil filter and crank over the engine with the kill switch on until all of the old oil and air is out of the lines.I use honda 15/40 non synthetic oil with no problems.Look in past post for more info on this subject

Jimmie, if you have a 2000 model you are asking for trouble by not bleeding the system!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of trouble? I have a screw driver made for torque and I still couldn't get it to break loose. Why would it be so tight to begin with?

A ceased motor. I had trouble loosening mine the first time. When you get it loose, don't ever over torque it, and you won't have that problem anymore.

Yes. I had to buy the largest screwdriver I could find anywhere, and use channel locks to untorque the screw.

Thanks for the info, I'll try to complete this sometime this week. Went riding today at Lima and during the second ride I had the chain roller break on me. I know this is a weak link from all the all post. I riding buddy of ours is going to make a new one for me at work. The thing happened was the best. My nephew likes to junk hunt, and while we were riding he found an old pair of skies. Brought them back to the truck and we straped them on and had a blast! If any one of you get a chance to do this, try it. To cool.

You really should change the oil filter with every oil change. It is cheap insurance against major engine damage.
