Default DS problem

Hello my fello DS Brothers. I just finished putting my DS back together from putting a new piston and head gasket in. My problem is that My DS will start and run with the Air filter and tube off, but the second I try to put it on the DS dies. Please help me DS experts. Of topic, but if your JE is the new style its closer to 13:1.. I ended up having to run a mix of race gas and premium to keep from pining.

I have contacted JE about this and have not gotten a reply.

i recently purchased a JE 11.5:1 piston kit, and im glad i talked to Eric at HPR because i was going to use stock gaskets, like The Stir said with the new JE its closer to 13:1.....Eric has the correct gaskets so i ordered them and it will bring it to 11.5:1....might have saved me a headache!

So why will it not run with the filter on? And also Stir what race fuel? If I run strait 100 octane, will that work? If I need to get 100 it's not too far away. Let me know. Thanks guys.

Race fuel is higher octane with some lead additives, usually 100 octane or higher. If your compression is above 11.5:1 it is a good idea to run a 50/50 mix to keep from predetonating your piston.

Will your bike run with the choke off when the air tube is disconnected?
Are you sure you have the cams at TDC when you put them in?

Yeah the motor is running without the choke. I'm pretty sure that we set the cams at TDC. We had the piston all the way up where we could see what we thought was a timing notch in the little screw hole. Then we put the cams with the notches pointing inward right at the little arrows on the chain guide. That's what it said in the manual that we had. Let me know if I'm way off on any of this. Thanks.

Your cams are in correctly, is your intake tube kinked in any way?

Have you tried increasing the idle a little? Idle may be set just a little low.

I'm running TT111 which is 111 Octane mixed at 3.5 gallons race gas and 1.5 gallons premium for 105 octane. Here is a little spreadsheet I whipped out Link. It will show you the octane and price, just enter the ocatane of the race gas and pump gas you are using and their price.

On the not running, any chance you have a rag in the tube? just a thought.

Clean your filter and keep it separate from your tube. Install the tube only and see what happens. Then slowely put the filter on.

It really shouldn't care as long as your filter is flowing.

That's funny that you bring up the rag in the tube thing Stir because that is exactly what it was. But I will say that it's not my fault. My buddy borrowed my k&n for his trx for a day and he stuffed the rag in without my knowledge. What's funny is that he couldn't figure out why we couldn't get it to run.
