Default procom CDI ----- still problems ?

I am looking into a new aftermarket CDI for my Predator. I know a wile back people were saying the procom could damage your engine since it didn't retard at low rpm for starting. Is that still a problem they have ? I also heard the procom units have been revamped......... are they worth buying or would I be risking damage to save the money ?
I appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.
I'm also considering the Dyna or posibly the Vortex.

Why risk it. If your a re looking to keep the cost down, I would go Big Gun. If not, then get the Vortex or something else that is proven

I agree with dragon. I have procom and have ridden with it on about 15 trips so far and have had no issues so far. But if I was you I would go with the Big Gun if you want to go cheap. Dynatek's sound sweet too, I might replace mine with a dynatek before too long.

Seth had one on his for a little while and sure enough it took out his rectifier and 3 batteries before we figured out what had happened. So when I got one for my old Preddy I was not gonna take a chance and just went right for the Vortex it is worth the money. IMHO.

Personaly I dont think any certain CDI box can be blamed for frying batteries and rectifiers because I just had a Ron Wood CDI fry my brand new oddessy batery and rectifier and Ive heardof stock parts as well as aftermarket from all companies fry on these Ds's, now one main problem seems to be the ground system which shold be maintained and I also added a few new grounds from engine to frame in certain places because I beleive that a bad ground causes these problems. I have just started playing with Atv's again but I am a ASE auto tech.

I agree somewhat but my Vortex never did what the procom did I did nothing else but get the new CDI and of course the Rectifier and battery that was fried because of the Procom.

An other issue the Pro Com had was too much initial timing that could cause a kickback and take out the starter sprag.

I have had timing issues or jetting issues that have caused the stater kickback probl;em and yes i lost a one way over it but i have never used a pro com.And fld you are very observant no CDI HAS OR WILL EVER TAKE OUT A BATT OR RECTIFIER.I have said it before and i will say it again the rectifiers only job is to rectifie the voltage created by the stator and regulator.IT IS DIAOD PROTECTED TWICE. AC TO DC is its job.Unfortunatley there appears to be a lot of good rectifier/regulaotrs laying in dumsters all across this country.
