Here is a video of my doing a decent wheelie

it could have been a longer wheelie but im finding that leaning to the side really doesnt do much for steering when you're doing a wheelie.

I think i'm running about 5lbs in the rear tires. and they arent 100% equal in pressure so it turns slightly- causing me to go off into the ditch.

Should i put less pressure in the tires so that i'll be able to steer during a wheelie?? (about 3psi maybe?)

i would guess the more pressure u have the better it would be, less pressure would give the tire more flex and u leaning wouldnt do much to it, the more pressure the more solid the tire and more sensitive it would be to leanin on it, course ive never tryed it lol just speculating

ok..... that makes sense i guess.

i was told/read that low pressure is better for wheeling because it makes the tires have a larger, flatter footprint (in an article it asked a retorical question, "now which you you think is easier- balancing a square or a circle?")

however the reasoning in that article doesnt make that much sense since the axle is still round.

k then, im going to try it with 8-10psi and with 3psi or something...... as soon as my back is better. b/c right now i cant lift anything so wheelies are quite painful to start

yea its better to wheelie with a wider tire, more tire on the ground = more traction, but for leaning purposes i dont see that workin to well, try both and see what happens

leaning does work, you just gotta lean really really far with alot of your body weight.

hey 125dillmatt, i would NOT recommed a kawasaki 450 because it looks like you're a new rider. I recommend you get a Yamaha Raptor 250- that is if you arent over 6 feet tall. The ds250 is a good entry level quad- i think it does about 45-50mph on flat ground- down a hill it will go a lot faster. (I have never touched the rev limit =D it can keep up on the trails i ride- extremely tight.)

I don't recommend getting a 450 as a first quad though if you have never driven at least ONE of the following: 1) standard dirtbike 2) standard motorcycle 3) standard tractor or car (no autoclutch or button shifting BS) 4) another standard quad

Remember though- if you get something that isnt fast enough for you and you want to modify it- do handling mods first to reduce the chance of having to spend excessive time in the hospital due to a crash caused by riding beyond the machine's abilities.

DS650Powe, just exactly HOW FAR do you have to LEAN to have a noticable effect? Should I sit down and lean all the way over one fender with one foot off the pegs? or is leaning to the side as far as possible while standing enough to effect a wheelie?

Then any of the 450's should be fine, but for as tall as you are check into a Raptor or a DS, they are a bit taller between the seat and pegs and make for a more comfy ride.

125dillmatt- since you're familiar with trikes and bikes, i dont know why you asked about a ds250 because to be honest with you, their power to weight ratio is very crappy compared to a 450.

Many taller people say that the yamaha 450 tends to be small and that the honda 450 is a little better for them. I dont know about the kfx450r but it supposedly has a rock hard seat (like a dirtbike, which i happen to not mind that much because a really soft seat makes you think you **** your pants.)

the canam ds450 has a taller seat height- that might be good for taller people if you also get a taller handlebar ($50-$100 isnt that much if you're going to spend 7-8k on a quad)
