Default Vapor Trail Tech in now no tach movement

I just installed a Vapor Trail Tech kit with the speedo, tach, and water temp. The Vapor works great but now my tach just sits at 0, no movement except when I turn the bike on then it goes up then back down to zero like it should but when running nothing. Please help me out guys.
Thanks

When you hooked up the wire for the tach, did you go off the cdi connection? That's how I hooked mine in. The wire may have just come off.

I think the other method they showed was wrapping a wire around the spark or coil wire, can't remember which. See if that's loose.

I went off the trigger wire at the coil for the Vapor, and vapor tach works good. Its the stock tach that is not working during engine running it just goes up then to zero then sits at zero. All wires are connected I double and triple checked everything.

How well do you like the vapor? I have no tach and no vapor and am debating between the 2. I can get a new factory tach for $129 or the Vapor and dashboard for a little under $200. How does the Vapor register RPM? Does it respond fast and seem accurate? How does the speed portion work?

I like mine. Response it dead on. How accurate is it? Well, didn't have one on it before to compare, but I would say it's close as I'm gonna get.

With the factory tach, is that all you get? The Vapor has all the other stuff. (speed, water temp, hours, outside temp, ride time, actual time etc..)

And there is the endurance if you don't want the all the features of the vapor. So that's a little cheaper too.

Thanks Scooter,

I don't so much mean exact RPM accuracy as I do display lag time. If it keeps up, then I would be happy. If you rev your DS, does the tach portion keep up with the engine? I've had older digital diplays in the past (the far past) that couldn't keep up (Not on the DS) with changing RPM information - and that is a pet peeve of mine.

What is involved in the speed sensing portion? What has to be hooked up for that to work? Did you buy the dashboard?

Well, mine is on an 06 kfx400. The speed sensor was the most involved process of the whole thing. Have to take the wheel assembly off. Not hard, just time consuming. It gives you all the info you'll need to accurately calibrate it to the wheel size you are using.

I can't notice any lag on the rpm. If it's there, it's very minimal. I went to a direct connection off the cdi. You can also wrap a wire around the wire for the tach, but I opted for something a little more solid in the connection.

Didn't get the dashboard, yet. This was on my list for Christmas, and was just keeping the cost of things down. Probably surf ebay and see who's got one on sale. That's where I got the vapor, and it was 107 bucks shipped.

Alright, now another wrench thrown into the works. The dashboard is only available in 1 1/8" diameter bars configuration for the DS650. That means that I would have to buy new handlebars, too. This is getting expensive. Vapor $99, Dashboard $99, Handlebars $69. $267 Ouch - is it worth it?

Honestly, I think it's adding up to too much for me.

Keep in mind, the dashboard is just a piece of aluminum that covers the back and edges. Not to say you couldn't fab something yourself for less.
