Default TM 45 Carb or 46hv Lectron Carb??

Ok, just trying to learn here...

What's the difference between the 2 carbs? I'm assuming they both have their pros/cons. Which one is better overall? or is it a matter of opinion. I understand it helps to have some motor work done to really see a gain over the stock carb. Thanks in advance, all the info I've been gettin here has helped tramendously!

I think you answered your own question, it seems to be a matter of opinion. You can search on these forums and read the debate until your head turns blue. I run the 45 and love it, but others swear by the 46. I went with the 45 just becasue I got a really good deal on it.

Just like everyone said, it's all preference, I run a Lectron 46hv, awesome carbfor me it runs perfect. But if you can find either one for a deal, jump on it.

You will find the 45 cheaper no matter where you search. There is a reason for that. But to answer your question the best I can.

First, the Mikuni Tm45 is a flat slide carburator. It pulls fuel just like every other carb out there. Pilot Jet circuit, Needle jet circuit, and Main Jet Circuit. It also has an Accelerator pump for added fuel when giving it gas. It works good in every situation. The drawback is the pull with a thumb throttle. No matter what spring you choose, and how soft you set it, it will still pull harder than stock.
Second, the Lectron 46hv is not like any other carb out there. It uses a flat slide, but has a metering rod. It also has a Power jet, and a Idle circuit. The idle circuit of course helps at idle. The Metering rod does all the jobs of the rest of the circuit, hence the reason it is so important to get the proper metering rod. The power Jet adds fuel when vacuum is at its peak. It is not needed, but to get the best performance, it is used. The Lectron is by far the better performing carb for duning. IMO

Thanks 650viper, I'm not a serious duner, yet, I'm just curious to what's good for what. you answered that pretty well for me. I've heard the tm45 needed to have a modded throttle cable because it's really for a twist throttle. some said that after it's modded it's not so bad. of course your thumb is gonna get a lil stronger, probably just get used to it over time.

now im curious about this metering rod stuff and the other components of the lectron. I just learned a lot about my stock carb in the last month and that really all I know. any good sites that explain how the Lectron works?

I really like my TM45. I would like to try a Lectron at some point, but have heard that they do not clear my IMS tank. Might be something to think about.

how about this question, which is better for MX? I've heard the lectron has a tendency to bog off the bottom?
