on my way to milk yesterday my ds was running great but then goin down the road in fifth it jsut quit, stopped, started it right back up and carried on, when i got to the barn i checked the oil, it was straight up cottage cheese. i have since ripped the engine out, i have a head gasket here and i'm ordering new water pump shaft and seals tomorrow and i figured since i have it out i'd put a je 11.5 piston in as well. the head gasket looked perfect the seals looked pretty good but the shaft did have a little roughness to it were the seals ride, is that enough of a problem to cause the yogurty oil? the cylinder looks awsome so i cant think of anything else it could be. what else should i be checking or replacing while this engine is out and ripped apart? and how much should i expect to pay for that shaft and seals? and how do i get all that milk out of my engine now? sorry for the novel, thanks for the help

For rebuilding the water pump, I got the BMW part numbers from the "F650.com" website, which is the BMW dual sport bike that uses the same motor that we have. BMW has a kit that has the plastic impeller already mounted on the shaft (which makes things much easier), as well as two new seals and a new brass o ring for the coolant drain. I ordered this kit from a BMW dealership in Northern California, and had it within a couple of days. Seems like everything costed around $75.

i didnt have a hard time gettin the impeller off at all so i'll just get the shaft and seals i think. i was also wondering if i have to hone the cylinder before i put the new piston in, i know its nikisil plated or whatever they call it so i wasnt sure. my biggest concern right now is how i get all that gunk out of the rest of my engine. my roommate suggestd fillin it with diesel fuel then crankin it for a couple seconds to get it to the top of the motor then draining it.

ok, a couple of people have told me that you dont hone a nikisil plated cylinder because it takes the coating off
