Default Why the price premium over other brands?

I used to drive a Grizzly 660 when it first came out several years ago. I ended up trading it on a YFZ450 when they came out and that quad was stolen a few months after I got it. I didn't have insurance at the time on it so I was screwed. I just can't take not having a quad any longer and I am looking at getting another utility. It's been 3-4 years since I was "forced" out of the atv scene, so I don't really know what's hot and what's not.

The Bombardier quads were just starting to come out when I got out of it so I don't know much about them. I saw a used Outlander 650 at the local dealership and it looked like exactly what I am wanting. The other fourwheeler I was thinking about was a used Brute Force 750i. After looking on the internet about pricing it seems the Outlander retail price is very high compared to the other brands.

I could get a Brute Force 650i for 7099 new (MSRP) and an Outlander 650 costs around 7900-8500 (MSRP) new. For the price fo the 650 outlander I could get the 750i Brute Force.

My question is what makes the bombardier more expensive? Are they more reliable? Are they made better? Is it worth the extra money?

Thanks a lot!

Go out and ride the ones you're considering. Warranty should be a big consideration if you're looking at a 2009 model year Can-Am since they are starting to be built in Juarez, Mexico this year. The last one rolled off the line in Valcourt about a month ago. Valcourt is only building the Spyder and the SkiDoos now. I always hate to buy something during it's first model year. If you can get your hands on an 2007 or 2008 model that was built in Valcourt, I'd go for that over the 2009.
As far as the quads go, I think you'll notice and feel the sportiness of the Outlander.

I'm not looking to buy new, I just threw those prices up as a comparison.

Apples for apples, they are a lot closer than that. Are you comparing an XT model CanAm with the BF. The XT comes with a lot of upgrades, including wheels and tires, winch, etc. Don't forget the 3 year warranty, abut $600. Go to each companies website and get the MSRP. Then compare how much your dealer is discounting if at all. Most Can Am dealers seem to hold out for MSRP cause they are selling all they get. More important than price is performance. Ride them both then make up your mind. Be happy with your choice cause they can all have a few problems and it is a lot easier to live with if you really like your ride.

Cardiac, owning both the Grizzly and Outlander how would you compare them? I used to own the 660 and I would be interested in your take.

The Grizzly is for the wife, power steering and all. I ride it sometimes and can't wait to get back on the Outlander. Sorry guys, but the Grizz just feels 'puny'

Haha, I went by and looked at a 2006 Outlander 800 today and man its got some size on it. It is certainly bigger and wider than the grizz was. I like the stance more, the grizz always felt tippy imo. This thing seems well planted. I didn't have a lot of time so I didnt give it a test drive, but hopefully I will be going back up there with a price in mind later this week.

I would take a new Grizz 700 over a Outlander 800 as I feel it is a better allaround machine besides if I wanted a fast 4x4 I would go with the Rengade 800. IMHO!

What makes it an all round better machine in your opinion?

I don't think it is a better machine. It is very tippy stock, had to add aftermarket wheels to make it safer for my wife. The p/s is nice as my wife does not have the strength to turn the Outlander sharp when needed. The downside is that it is very twitchy during normal riding to the point of being a lttle unsafe to the novice. Everything else about the Outlander is heads above the Grizzly. The only exception would be the difference between a manual locker and the Visco lok and that is so minor to be insignificant. In fact, the Visco performs so well 99.9% of the time that I wouldn't trade it for a manual locker if it was an either/or situation. But, to each his own, thats why there are so many different brands of quads and so many opinions.
