If you unplug the two big plugs on the MPEM )behind the gas tank) and replace the 20A fuse. Hooking up the battery and turn on the key. If the fuse does not blow the problem is the MPEM being shorted. If the fuse still blows you have another short in the wiring. Look for a chafed spot.

Do not put in a large fuse, it will damage the MPEM and make it unrepairable.

If the MPEM is shorted I can fix it as long as it has not been run off a large than 20 A fuse as that burns the circuit board.

If anyone has MPEM from scrapped machine I will buy them and repair them for people who have burned theirs.

I have now fixed 80 MPEMs for the traxter 500's
If the 20A fuse blows and unplugging the MPEM two big plugs stops the fuse from blowing the MPEM is bad. I can fix it. DO NOT PUT IN A LARGER FUSE.
A large fuse may ruing the circuit board and make it unrepairable.

Default Blowing MPEM FUSE

Don't put in a larger fuse 20A is max a larger fuse will burn the circut and make it un repairable.
Check that nothing is shorting like the carb heater wire.

I can fix damaged by jumping MPEMs

Wow I fixed mine in 15.min . 20volt tvs . Worst part was removing it from the unit (traxter max 2004 ) 2hrs.
The mpem unit only have to remove corner and dig down to tvs. Test shorted. Cut out solder in new one. Fill with silicone and all good.

Great, good job. I warn the do it your self people. If you don't know what is in it the MPEM and what the parts that fail are you may damage it or not completely fix it. I have received 6 from people who tried to fix or had friends try to fix the MPEM.

YOU CAN NOT GET ANOTHER MPEM IF YOU MESS IT UP! They are out of production about 10 years. One or two com up a year from parted out bikes, mostly in Canada. You save a few bucks and scrap the bike in the end if you damage it.

@electromatic I have been offered a 99 Traxter 500 for cheap with a blown MPEM. Is the 98-01 the same? Is it repairable like the later ones. Ae these machines any good when running?

Yes the older ones are repairable if they did not use a larger than 20 A fuse. Most of them are sold strong good riding ATVs . Bur I cant qualify that one what you are looking at.

Hi Nick ATV
Thank you for responding to my message on Flickand for introducing me to this site for Traxters.I changed the Diode but my MPEM still does not work. When I look at your post someone says below that there is a second DIOD Nick Name: Electromatic.I also sent her a message to find out where she is, hoping for a response.

Currently I have 3 Traxters, a 2002 Traxter 500, another 2003 Traxter 500 MAX, and another Traxter 500 MAX XT

THANKS...
